A quick question, if I use the platinum line to request classic award seats (they will be Y domestic) should I be charged additional $$ or FF points for booking by phone and not online?

You will only be charged if your request is successful, regardless of the cabin being booked.

Thanks Red Roo. Sorry my OP was a little unclear, I will be requesting award seats that are not available for booking online. Hence, as the booking can't actually be made online, there is a case for the telephone booking fee to be waived?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I usually find that the telephone assistance fee (for booking on the phone) is charged.

Annoying it may be, it is usually a small price to pay to get what you couldn't normally obtain online.

For domestic Y, the only reason you couldn't book online is either booking engine failure or no seats. I didn't think there were any specific routes or carriers that could not be booked online and only possible over the phone.

That's exactly how I understood your query. :)

Our Premium Desk would be happy to discuss your options, and assist with finding alternatives should you wish to avoid the fee.

There are no seats hence the premium line request. I've successfully asked nicely before but had to argue the point and from memory it was referred to a senior. So interested in what the actual policy should be prior to calling this time.

Here the fee is reasonable. It's a bit different to when there's just a bug with their booking engine or something like that.

I was charged a fee for a domestic J class redemption (SYD to BNE) where I had requested the seats be released. Was happy to pay though...

Slightly OT, but I was recently charged for an over the phone J MASA - and just realised I am still waiting for the refund some 4 weeks on. Should I escalate??

I should say so....

Yes. Alternatively I'd be happy to follow up via private message. :)
