Mrs-WLG-to-be and I recently flew MEL-WLG on Air NZ Saver fares. We requested and received a change of seats at Air NZ check in (in our experience, booking online with VA does not let you choose seats on Air NZ, even though both of us are WP), which was duly processed.

On board, we noticed that the IFE was working and took advantage of it without thinking too much more. However, once dinner was served we were asked what choice we would like. Now I knew that we had only gone with the Saver fares, so I ventured forth with a "I forgot what sort of fare we had booked, what are we good for...?", and received a "You've got the Works, so it's included". So that was that, and we had the beef.

So my question is whether this is a change in rules/benefits (do WPs now get meals regardless of fare paid), or is it more likely that this was an error (more likely, but I don't know how this mistake could have been made - something to do with the seat change?)? We checked the SCs credited afterwards, and we had still only received the Saver 20.

I flew SYD-CHC with NZ888 last week, as a VA code and a VA WP, and I didn't receive works benefits. I was however (as per other threads here) substantively recognised for my partner status, had the personal greeting from the Cabin Supervisor, was handed express arrival cards, and had noise cancelling headphones in my seat pocket before I got on the aircraft.

My guess is maybe you got lucky and there was a mistake?

Gold VA member here. About a month ago, having booked only saver fare on the VA flight number, received a works fare on the way to AKL on check in, and a seat fare in the way back.

No idea why, but chalked it up to luck!
