Hi,

My wife and I are leaving next weekend for a holiday to the US. Flights are economy but am hoping WP will make the trip much more bearable. As I have not flown this route as WP before I would appreciate some advice and tips on how to make the most of the experience.

Kindly comment on the following:
Will we have much time in the lounges?
How long do we need to allow to get to and from the lounges?
Is it correct we will have priority access through customs?
Can we use the lounge at LAX after we arrive?

Flight details:

Out next Sunday morning

As a WP you should get express passes through MEL immigration. These are invaluable and will assist you quickly getting through this line. Then you can enter the MEL F lounge. MEL AP is the best in Australia for quick transits between the domestic and international terminal.

You won't be able to use a lounge in LAX unless you are connecting to an AA domestic flight where you would have access to the Admirals lounge in the domestic terminal.

On the return trip you will of course be able to use the LAX lounge and then the Qf SYD domestic lounge.

Happy travelling.

In terms of time to and from the lounges, as HVR said, MEL is great for International transits, so if you have the express card, you'll be off plane and in the F Lounge in 30 mins give or take... Just in time for a lovely breakfast and some bubbly if that takes your fancy!

As for Sydney, coming back into Oz will take longer as you'll have to get your bags, clear customs, re-check bags, and catch a bus, before walking to the lounge. Might take over an hour.

Enjoy the trip, I hope you've got some good seats allocated!

Jason, you may well be very tired after arriving in SYD ex LAX, but have you thought of changing your domestic booking (if you can do so at no cost) to a later flight from SYD (say at 1500 or so) so that you can enjoy a leisurely lunch in the QF lounge?

I was looking at this differently.

Change your outbound to a day flight and stay over atthe airport. One day less jet lag. Those red eyes from Perth are horrendous.

Also where are you seated on 93 and 94??

Thanks for all the replies. After 5 weeks away I'll have to be at work on the Monday, the later SYD-PER flight is well worth considering though. Seats are upper deck 33k & 33J.

The "Mystery Deal" is almost certainly the same place at $98.

The shuttle service is a little annoying but frequent.

(Sorry, was misled into thinking you needed Sunday night, realised too late that you'd need the Saturday)
