Hey there,

I'm flying Emirates Y later this year MEL-KUL-DBX-FCO and I was wondering whether I can expect any on-board perks as a WP. I know that on the ground, I'll be able to enjoy the First Lounge in MEL and the Emirates First Lounge in DBX plus the usual premium check-in queues and fast tracked immigration but do we get anything special once in the air?

Thanks!

P.S. First post! Been a long time admirer (and lurker) of AFF.

From my limited experience of 2 flights. Both times I got the CSM meet and greet, and I was also provided with a fast track card for immigration at LHR.

Don't know if there's much else I would personally be looking for.

Exactly same service I had too, so did the SG that was sitting behind me.

Cool thanks guys, sounds fairly consistent so far. I'll report on my experience once I do the trip.

I've heard that Emirates sometimes offer quite cheap paid-for upgrades at the counter (~$250) for their frequent fliers and are also more generous with their op-ups compared with some other airlines so fingers crossed! ;)

Conversely DXB-BNE on QF code EK metal, no greeting or special treatment at all (no complaint, I can live without a formulaic "special greeting" and don't need express into BNE)

Mixed here - sometimes get a special hello, sometimes don't. Not fussed either way as regardless of whether there was the hello, the service hasn't been any different.

For me, absolutely nothing on board (DXB-LOS) at the back of the bus on a very cramped 777.

My BNE-SIN-BNE on QF coded EK flights last weekend I received CSM greeting on the first sector and an offer to be relocated to more comfortable seats (I should have joked those business class seats look more comfortable). On the second no greeting but we were twice provided with express immigration cards. On both flights orders for the main meals were taken and we were served our meals before the rest of the cabin.

Looks like the main benefits are on the ground (i.e., lounge access) then. Quite looking forward to seeing the EK First lounge in DBX, sounds like quite the experience.

Don't get your hopes up if you've been to the SYD or MEL QF First lounge. The EK lounge is vast but I find it a bit soulless. Direct boarding from the lounge is impressive though. EK also performs the direct boarding trick from their lounge at LHR t3.

I've had the pleasure of experiencing the First Lounge in MEL on 3 occasions now, it's pretty bloody good isn't it? :)

Shame my EK flight leaves at such an ungodly hour (0240hrs) or I'd be enjoying my 4th visit...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Of course, except for USA flights, it's direct via the lift from the MEL Qantas First Lounge to gates 9 & 11.

Ability to preselect bulkhead aisle.

Much more important than some personal greeting.
I'm booked on a QF codeshare on EK metal to SIN in November and can happily select Aisle Bulkhead using QF.com

Flew on QF8036 (EK36) from NCL - DXB earlier today and got similar treatment to that mentioned previously. Two different Emirates ladies came and introduced themselves and told me not to hesitate to ask if I needed anything. Meal option was given to me about 10 minutes before others around me.

My Old Man was sat in my allocated seat so was quite pleased to be getting the extra attention until Mam realised it was me they were referring to. I was happy watching to see him get his 5 minutes of fame. Mam's response to Dad on one comment was, "Do you think they are referring to you as being a frequent flyer because we flew Emirates 2.5 years ago, don't be silly!". That was his bubble well and truly burst! :)

Let's see what EK8414 brings for the next 14 hours!

If I book an upgradeable fare on QF.com ex PER (therefore EK Metal) can I use points to request an upgrade?

No - to be eligible for QFF point upgrades a segment be booked with a QF flight number and on QF metal.

Thanks serfty. That stinks for those wanting to head to London ex PER. :(

Recently flew to/from Europe on an EK ticket booked before the alliance took effect - changed FF number later (QF platinum). Down side was no SCs, but almost everything else sseemed as good as or better than QF.

Itinerary was PER-DXB-FRA out, BHX-DXB-PER return on a heavily discounted economy ticket for self and wife

Choice of lounges at PER. EK is fairly mediocre, so used QF lounge. Did seat selection prior to changing FF details and still got pretty good choice as EK silver, so couldn't see any benefit from flying as QF member. Got the CSM greeting on all sectors (for what it's worth). Flights at DXB were in/out of concourse A so got the first lounge on its own level with direct boarding. On DXB-FRA sector, flight attendant checked for my choice of meal in advance so I got my first choice. The highlight was getting an upgrade to business BHX-DXB despite only having a discount economy ticket - have never got an international upgrade with QF in 17 years of membership. EK lounge at BHX (which I could never have travelled from with QF anyway) was comparable with plenty of QF international lounges. Unfortunately transfer at DXB was through the B&C concourses so used the "old" lounge - good but not as good as A concourse. Alcohol service in EK economy probably not up to same standard as QF. More restricted choice and need to prompt the attendants for refills.

Main point to note is that you need to book with QF to get SCs, regardless of whether flight is EK or QF operated. Overall fairly satisfied.

Just to clarify - you need a QF flight number to earn SC's. e.g. EK542 (EK metal) will earn points but no SC's while QF8542 on same flight will earn both QFF points and SC's.
