Would you get a tattoo?

Every time i think i should get one... i think what will it look like in 20 years..

As Robin Williams once remarked, "...girls, if you're thinking about getting that tattoo of the sunrise rising out of your bum crack, it's gorgeous when you're 20, but when you're 50 it's an octopus chasing a starfish.

So, no...be careful!"

Tattoos have never played a part in any of the interviews I have conducted. They have been many and varied in a variety of industries.

Yes fair enough, for many industries that's true but if you want to be a medical specialist, a surgeon, a lawyer in a good practice and many other similar positions, best not to get any visible ones

I was thinking of getting one on my neck which says "I'm going to regret this" - preferably with a misspelling thrown in.

My mate purchased an artwork in stone for the garden, maybe you could use this for your neck ...

I think tattoo removal is going to be a massive industry in 5-10 years time.

It's not like a crazy haircut you get because it's cool!

At least a crazy haircut grows out pretty quick - tattoo removal can take months of painful laser treatment.

Ah but sure, you only live once!

Im not for knuckle, neck, face or hand tattoos. But if you're willing to spend the money on an artist (and not just the local scratcher)...

I personally have quite a few. However when i wear a tshirt you cannot see any :D

How about someone younger with a tattoo?

I was in BNE international yesterday returning a hire car and hiring another. Waited ~20 minutes to be served. Kiwi couple in front of me. Father with tatts and piercings all over him. Yes I know I don't have to look but I have no choice when I am facing forward. Mother with a tattoo on her calf, sleeve on her right arm and God knows where else. A little girl with them who looked angelic. Long hair and maybe 11-12 years old. Couldn't be much older. After 10 or so minutes she walked back to where her brother was sitting and I notice something on her right arm. Can't be. Surely. Yes, a tribal tattoo on her upper arm.

Sad. Very sad....

I thought it was illegal to tattoo a person 18 years or younger. You need to shake your head if the parents allow this to occur.

Depends on the state - NT I think there is no age restriction, ACT, NSW and WA parental permission for under 18 and other states over 18. We fought the good fight with Miss FM and used logic and reasonable arguments to stave it off and now she no longer wants one. However you have to pick your fights as a parent and I can think of a lot worse things for a kid to want to do......

This thread reminded me of something:

There was this guy who was really in love with his girl friend Wendy, so he decided to tattoo her name on her cough. When the cough was erect it said Wendy, when it wasn't erect it only spelled the letters W and Y. So after this guy and his girlfriend got married they went on their honeymoon to Jamaica. One day in a restaurant the guy went to the bathroom and saw a black guy peeing next to him and on his cough he saw the letters W and Y. So he asked "Hey, do you also have a girlfriend named wendy?, and the black guy said "Hell no, man, my tattoo says Welcome to Jamaica, have a nice day."

Is that the law in New Zealand?
