Would you get a tattoo?

A pax with status flying around during school holidays is quite likely to get upgraded, tattoo or not.

A bit OT but will put my jaw forward for the punch. I am in my mid 50's, not conservative but I see and can't understand people in my age group suddenly sporting tattoos all over their
bodies. I particularly hate women with sleeves, is this their mid life crisis. And blokes suddenly with ear rings, don't get me started. (Huddling in corner waiting for the bombs to fall )

amazing the acceptance of tattoos in society and the depth of who has them. Every time i think i should get one... i think what will it look like in 20 years..

A granny with a tramp stamp dosnt work for me

And that's my problem. I think some tattoos look great on the right people but in my line of work I've seen plenty on old men (mainly men) with saggy, baggy shoe leather for skin and it isn't pretty at all

In a professional line of work, visible tattoos can be career suicide. No matter what you think personally, in general they will always be looked down on as lower class

Obviously it's not fair to generalize about everyone, and there are always exceptions, but the majority of people with tattoos will never end up being successful surgeons, lawyers etc

I agree with you from a exec corporate point of view with the amendment to 'visible' tattoos.

I know of people who have had tatts in their teens and and them all removed - any of them that could be seen in any sort of formal environment so they didn't hold themselves back professionally.

They have also locked down or completely deleted their social media presence and don't allow others to post photos of them at the gym/beach etc as well as it's well known that after linkedin, recruiters and talent acquisition folk go straight to google and Facebook to discover who you 'really' are...

I think tattoo removal is going to be a massive industry in 5-10 years time.

It's not like a crazy haircut you get because it's cool!

My BIL has a successful shop in Mel cbd and bought a laser removal machine approx three years ago.

He is now just as busy removing as applying....

I know of someone who has a successful career in a professional line of work with a tattoo, although it's his wife's name on his arm. He says it's about love and commitment; we believe it's to ensure he still remembers her name after a night out.

I don't think having a tattoo on your upper arm will have much impact if you wear a suit yo work- what I can't understand is people getting them up their neck and on their face.

I can't believe the amount of tattoos on the Sunshine Coast. I moved here 3 years ago and this was one of the most noticeable differences amoungst people from Sydney. Now travelling to other states and NZ regularly, I still think the Sunshine Coast is the tattoo capital of Australia.

Ok, I am going to chime in on this one.

I am a National Sales Manager for an Australian manufacturer. I have been with my company for over 6 years now - when I started, I probably had 5 or 6 tattoo's - I now have 11.

I have never hid any of my tattoo's from my employer right from the beginning. Each of my tattoo's, I thought long and hard about, they are all custom work and mean something to me - not just off the wall generic stuff.

My "big" pieces are on my legs and on the top of my arms - smaller stuff on my wrists and mid arms. Not once have I ever felt the need to "hide" what I have to my boss - and I am in a fairly conservative industry.

If I am meeting a new client, I may wear long sleeves to cover what I have - and that makes me sad. Judge me on how good I am at my job, not what is on my skin. Inevitably, ALL my clients will see my tattoo's as we develop a relationship, and I have NEVER had a negative comment about ANY of them. Even my most conservative clients are usually in awe as to how lifelike my portrait tattoo's are, and the stories behind them.

As for the whole "how will they look when I am 80" thing ??? Who really cares ? When I am 80, I think my main issue will be whether I can wipe my own cough, and not need to wear adult nappy's, as opposed to whether my tattoo is saggy or not !

The main difference between people who are tattooed, and people who aren't ??? Tattooed people don't care if you are tattooed !

A person's remains have been found in the Maribyrnong river recently. Police released an imagine of the guy's tattoo.

According to a person on reddit it is from a punk band from Sydney called Downtime and their album tooth and nail.

I guess tattoos have their use.

Basically I've observed the further north you go up the ESB the more tatts there are.... Read into that what you will ;)

It was reported on the news tonight that the victim's family recognised the tattoo and contacted police. A sad way to find out that a loved one has died.

How about someone younger with a tattoo?

I was in BNE international yesterday returning a hire car and hiring another. Waited ~20 minutes to be served. Kiwi couple in front of me. Father with tatts and piercings all over him. Yes I know I don't have to look but I have no choice when I am facing forward. Mother with a tattoo on her calf, sleeve on her right arm and God knows where else. A little girl with them who looked angelic. Long hair and maybe 11-12 years old. Couldn't be much older. After 10 or so minutes she walked back to where her brother was sitting and I notice something on her right arm. Can't be. Surely. Yes, a tribal tattoo on her upper arm.

Sad. Very sad....

It has become very in fashion to have tattoos with many actresses having them. When Miss FM was in year 11 and 12 many of the kids in her year were getting them, including those planning professional careers as lawyers and doctors. They tended to go for one on the hip or something like that - seemed a bit pointless. We pulled out every argument we could and talked Miss FM into waiting until she was older to get one done and she no longer wants one. Being in our 60s we have a dislike of tattoos as they were not accepted in our youth, but acceptance levels have changed.....

That's just as likely to be because they were being polite. I would never comment on someone's tattoos either, but I suspect it would really hurt them in an interview situation where there are a lot of excellent candidates to choose from.

Tattoos have never played a part in any of the interviews I have conducted. They have been many and varied in a variety of industries.
