Would you fly Garuda?

It is certainly good to see some, or is it many? passengers having confidence in Garuda.. But for some, or others such as myself.. I do still have distinct memories of their past issues.. & it was more than being able to get a beer or two or the quality of the food.
The issue & problems that plagued Garuda for so long was the most important component of all.. Safety & Maintenance. I have experienced first hand & also have heard of many credible reports of consistent substandard flight safety & maintenance of the past.

Always consider: Reputation always precedes ones name.

I certainly hope that Garuda has truly brushed up its act & rectified ALL its past mistakes.. Till then, no matter how attractive the ticket prices are, I'll sit on the sideline!

Happy flying..

YEP! Cause I know very well the quality maintenance division in SQ & also have a lot of credibility in PR with Lufthansa Technik servicing their a/c.

And yes I have done the the odd Garuda flight, it's just not for me..

Everyone is entitled to sharing their view & I am merely answering the Q of the thread! & for my assessment, it is purely based on personal experiences.

There are many choices, but if this airline is suitable for your requirements.. go for it!

I am actually not aware of a Garuda crash due to maintenance issues (although I'm not entirely certain).

does that not put SQ and PR in the same ball park as GA where most fatalities are due to pilot error (and really doesn't matter how the plane is maintained, or by whom)? I guess I just interested to understand why people have it in for Garuda. (I guess I'm also intrigued to know if there are actually people who think they will not fly a particular airline because they might die... and double intrigued if those same people drive in their car to the airport!! :))

Oh ' the hostess was smiling ever so sweetly "... as the aircraft was hurtling towards the mountain.. & as the 18 rectifiable audible warnings were evident in the coughpit!

well, better to have be well fed and watered on Garuda than not at all on Jetstar... while your pilots are confused by warnings during an aborted landing in Melbourne, or allegedly texting while landing in Singapore

Having just flown BKK-CGK return in whY with Garuda, I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. I got exit rows both times, there were screens in every seat (a little limited but better than Jetstar iPads), food was ok, service fine too. Would they be my airline of choice, probably not, but mainly due to my OW flying focus. Certainly if I needed to get to CGK again from Asia, I'd book again.

Chiming in late here but I just can't get over Garuda's legacy issues, and the thought of previously being banned from flying in EU airspace (even though this has been lifted) just freaks me out.

You've got to remember that by default ALL Indonesian carriers were banned from flying EU airspace by default (not specifically GA). The EU did not have faith that the Indonesian regulator was doing its job properly, understandably given the well known corruption issues in Indonesia. It took time and effort on GA's behalf to satisfy EU regulators that its standards were high enough to enable to fly there, and it is one of only a small number of Indonesian airlines that have done this.

Would I fly with Garuda - probably would, but not paying a premium to do so, as well it would have to be the better option both in price and schedule on offer to get to where I want to go. But given I have flown once to Indonesia, and have no immediate plans to return.
