Would you complain to QF about this?

Sometimes what wives Hear, Retain and Recollect are not exactly what happened. The chance of a customer service agent telling someone they don't look like they are business class passengers is pretty slim.

I am sure that your wife feels that the wrong thing was done by her, and that somebody else was at fault. But I suspect that the actual truth of what happened lies somewhere south of what you have been told. Probably a long way south. If she has a receipt for the extra checked baggage it would be a different story and you should definitely be able to claim it back.

I think best just to agree with your wife and let the matter rest.
just...lol

We had considered pushing the boundary to see at what point they refuse to believe you should be in the priority lane. One option was borrowing school uniforms off younger friends, particularly around schoolies (I know, obviously you wouldn't wear your uniform but still it pushes the underlying portrayal). +1 has mentioned going into the Flounge as a high school student a couple times, though sadly that would be much more respectable than many people I see in there. Mostly I fear we'd start to look like Neighbours/Home & Away style 'students' :-|

It is human nature to make assumptions and people do choose the wrong line (look up kettle on FT). We ask the airlines police the priority lines so there is a balancing act there. Go ahead and report it, like all complaints keep it as short as possible and non-emotive. QF have appeared to be improving their front line customer service including training, so you'd expect they want feedback.

I would certainly complain, totally out of the 'customer service order"
I have had a few smart remarks from Qantas staff over the years, I always look younger than I actually am, so it was a bit of a challenge in my earlier days.
The worst attitude I ever experienced was years ago on a BA flight in J. I was about 20. It was from another passenger. Some pompous pr!(k made a smart remark 'Oh did you steal your Daddy's credit card & take yourself on a holiday? ..he then hid behind his broadsheet.. No I exclaimed- 'I have my own" & I also like wearing casual clothes just to annoy stressed out suit types like you.. As the Moët & smiles flowed freely toward me for the rest of the flight.

Oh gee that a massive sexist generalisation right there. I know my wife retains, hears and sees many things better than me. I know ADL staff can be rubbish. No way in the world would I make assumptions about what other "wifes" hear and retain when I've never met them.

You had already made assumptions about what somebody elses wife heard and retained in your previous post. You assumed the third hand information you where given was correct. You assumed that what you where told the wife said was the actual course of events.

I am not surprised that your wife hears and sees things better than you do.

<FWIW>, my wife's work requires her to record and repeat what she has observed or heard so I have no doubt it occurred in the way described by her. Even if that wasn't her work I would believe her as she texted me straight away about it - and I'm not stupid enough to say otherwise ;)

... Do you have the receipt for the extra checked luggage??

I have had similar experience but with CX and not QF.

I was walking leisurely to the First Check in section in Row B in HKIA and a lady walked up and said: "Economy Check in is in Row D or E", and she actually walked me to economy check in. Anyway, I didn't want to kick a fuss because I was at the airport early and went with her. Luckily the queue wasn't that long and I waited for around 10 minute.

On presentation of my passport, the check in staff immediately asked why I did not check in using the F facility with my status and I was travelling in J also. I explained and the girl was immediately called to the counter and asked to apologise. I didn't kick a big fuss about it and told them it was a non-issue. However, it created a bit of a hassle for the check in staff because he didn't have First Class tag and had to run over to grab me some. He was also very apologetic.

I always travel in t-shirt (I love my Comme Des Garscon) and jeans, so perhaps that created the perception. But I would never really kick a big fuss out of this. What's the benefit in complaining?

Why would I have a receipt? After she told them again that she was flying business and showed them the eticket printout for a second time the extra baggage fee was waived as it should be.

She was also slightly annoyed that the bags weren't priority tagged as they went through self checkin but I told her with QF that doesn't necessarily mean they will come out as priority even when tagged.

That is good. She got her entitlements. You seem to have a case of selective recollection as well.

If it was a Business ticket, they should be automatically priority tagged with the black box printed on the tag. There doesnt need to be the pink flag. As a slight aside, even if the QTags are used, the priority doesn't go on the colour of the tag, but rather on the information coded to the tag.

"So if you're a student, how can you afford to fly up the front?". I duly replied I work and I use points...I was rather shocked that she would ask the question.

I often have this when travelling alone, being that I'm also 21. "So, Mr Dubs, do you do a lot of travel?" and I've also had "You seem young, how did you get your way up here/ what do you do for a living at such a young age" or something to that effect. I've never been offended by it, I find the ways they try to keep it tactful, kind of entertaining.

I have had "how do you afford this?" on one occasion, but seeing as she told me earlier in conversation that she had not long changed over from Jetstar, I decided I couldn't be upset about her asking. Instead, I just replied "Mum pays for it" with my signature spoilt brat smile! :p

No, actually my previous post was based on my experience of qantas staff in ADL.

Not sure how you figure that. The OP was clear that they didn't pay for extra baggage. The priority tag is irrelevant to the question asked.

+1 to feedback.

Would be interested to hear the response (if any) also

We've been set upon while waiting in the F/J check-in queue......QF in BNE & BA in SYD.

BA was a classic as the gent came over & stated to a family in front of us that this was for F passengers, they nodded & moved. He then pounced on us with the confidence........he didn't get a word out as my 5 year old daughter stood firm & said we are travelling in first class.

The QF dragon in BNE was rude in her attempt to move me out of the J lane & didn't stop after being advised that I'm travelling in J......she tried to push me over to the auto things. I'd had enough & politely told her to go & bother someone else.

I used to travel through Adelaide regularly around three years ago. I often found the checkin staff and Qantas Club staff to be officious and at times condescending. I was also told to leave the Business line but refused as I wanted to go through some flight change options and seat choices. It was the only domestic airport where I found this consistently and I often commented to my collegues about it. It appears things have not changed.

On my most recent trip out of ADL the counter guard asked me to move out of the J queue. Once I'd said I was flying J she said I should use the self checkin at which point I had to explain that I needed to make sure my luggage was checked through to my international connection. Later the Qantas Club staff made an overly careful examination of my boarding pass, I thought the guy was going to hold it up to the light.

The trip before there was no issue. I was wearing a suit that time, instead of jeans and t-shirt.

I really do wonder why people with attitudes like these work in service industries. They are paid to serve customers, not make judgements about their financial situation. I would definitely be reporting her - who does she think she is?!?

If I was flying in J and cabin crew asked me how I could afford to do so at a young age I would coolly reply 'thats really none of your business, is it?' (and then report them).

Most recently I found ADL improving a little, they ask are you flying domestically. In my case no, as usual connecting onto other OW carriers at international ports on different PNRs, so good luck with that. However if the premium check-in queue is long, those just flying to MEL could quite easily just use the NGCI and save us all some time.

The staff could be trained on OneWorld carriers however, sometimes I've had to point to the sticker with the logos when they insist a certain carrier isn't a member before getting the binder out or asking a supervisor
