Would a hard expiry for QF points be a genuine enhancement for frequent flyers?

Benefits I see are as follows:

  1. Reduces the points liability for QFF, making it more profitable and HOPEFULLY preventing more "enhancements"
  2. Forces more "retail" / non hardcore FF's to burn points instead of saving them (most probably only enough for Y) thus freeing up more J / F awards...

Problem I see would be how to deal with family transfers / pooling...

Edit: Hard expiry = say 3 years deadline like CX, SQ's programs...

By 'hard' expiry do you mean each point has its own period of validity based on its earn date rather than the last use/earn date for the membership?

If so I think it would be a very bad 'enhancement'!

Some people like to save for specific awards, others have pad flight commitments to fulfil before they can avail themselves of reward travel etc.

Way too many reasons to dislike this line of thinking.

Just did 4x140K rewards - it took me longer then 3 years to get the points - maybe I should split the family in two for holidays but who to choose........

very bad line of thinking and with monthly points crediting from CC's a pain to figure out when each one will expire

the thing is they would probably hard expire the points AND make further enhancements.

it they hard expired points I would be less inclined to accrue anything with QFFF.

family members with large points accrual (300k or so a year) have already changed to other airlines because of the lack of availability in QF.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
