Can't say I agree with the rankings. For example, I'm surprised that Qantas came in at number 2 while ANA ranks 10. Maybe I need to reconsider my fierce aversion to Q?

Nope, I think you're right.

I've flown a lot of business/first class sectors recently on QF, CX, BA, AA, SQ & TG, and economy on QF and DJ. In terms of service, QF would have to be second last, followed only by AA.

I'd say my best are Air Pacific (both econ and the very affordable business) and Thai domestic (haven't had the chance to try them Intl yet). The Virgin domestic product does more for me than the Qantas one. At least you can be sure the plane will be new, comfortable and leather, and the staff happy.

Worst, can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet, JETSTAR  and AirCalin didn't do much to impress me either.

Tell me, I want to know!

It's a pity that Australians don't get much of an opportunity to fly ANA more often - I do 4 JFK/NRT returns with them every year and find them to be absolutely brilliant. Much better than UAL on the same sector. NH are on par with SQ, IMHO. Don't get to fly CX very much but it has been a good experience when I have.

Unfortunately I am addicted to *A so transpac it is UAL for me, though in F they really aren't too bad, they always look after us and we haven't had any major upsets. The 744s are starting to look very tired in the cabin, though.

The worst ever carrier I have experienced was Tarom Romanian Airlines in the late 1980's - truly, truly terrible in every respect. Two sectors on Garuda a few years ago were really something else too. And if I never have to fly Aerolineas Argentinas again, I will be a happy man - Yeesh! Surly staff in the air and on the ground, creaky old jets, and an inflight product that makes you yearn for United...

Best: EK, SQ, TG

Worst: Pan Am (when it existed) and any of the East European carriers for surliness.

I think you have given yourself away.

Try OZ as a very nice airline.

:)

Recently for me CX the best, AC (SYD-YVR) the worst. SQ remain consistently good, but CX are definitely in the lead IMHO at this stage.

stryker,

you're to cryptic for me :!: Could you elaborate a few of your posts just a little more :?:

It is hard to determine worst and best, as it varies between solely long & medium haul focussed carriers (eg SQ, CX) with pure domestic operators (eg DJ, Jet Blue) and those with mixed operations (NZ, QF, BA, AA etc), and it also varies with class of travel.

Based on the carriers I've flown I suggest the following, although of these I can only claim >10 flights on QF, AN, NZ, ZL, SQ, TG, DJ & AA so a bit hard to make meaningful comparisons on carriers other than those.

Excellent
SQ, CX, EK,

Very Good
NZ, QF, SA, LA, MI, TG, MH, AN (of old), ZL, XR

Good
BA, DJ, IB, AC,

Fair
JQ, NW, PR, TL,

Poor
AA, UA,

Best Airlines: Qantas, Finnair

Poor Airlines: Swiss, TWA

Worst Airline: None! I am still alive.

I really like Skywest.. they have roomy planes, great coffee and a really friendly staff.

No i don't work for them (or know anyone who does) but i just like travelling with them. Also their booking engine shows the days ( a month view) that a particluar cheap fare can be found.

Hey most airlines are good if you are in business class ( better than cattle class!! ) just a quick thought anyway.

My list for the last twelve months on airlines i have flown

For business class int'l best
Qantas
SAS
Cathay Pacific ( but beds need to be longer same with singapore )

For worst intl flights
Thai ( economy )

Worst Domestic airline
Skywest Broome to Darwin shocker only once and never again rather fly scare north.
Virgin blue

like i say rather be up in business then in cattle class on any airline

For worts int'l flights

Well for experiences mostly in WHY, I so cannot remember when I last fly in Business Class:
Best Long Haul in WHY
Asiana
Air New Zealand
Worst Long Haul in WHY
Lufthansa
Best Short Haul in WHY
Qantas (QP may help towards this)
Lufthansa
Worst Short Haul in WHY
Air New Zealand (Koru Club does not count;) )
OK, I will admit it Ezy Jet, I will never do that again!

Yep, I found the short haul Lufthansa was good, especially the female FAs but their long haul was atrocious, especially the female FAs.
Air New Zealand is the reverse, I do not like the short haul too much and must make use of the Koru Club to numb me for the flight. Their new long haul in the 747 is superb but Asiana beats it in the food service department.
Not flown Ryan Air but will rate it up there with Ezy Jet and will probably give up flying if I have to....well not fair I have flown Jetstar and did not suffer too much for it....QP before did help.;)

Hi guys,
T
he worst Airline i have ever flown, would be Austrian Airlines, the stuff have no pride in their service.. Best Airline, not to mention the best safety record, Qantas ; )

best: CX J (IMHO QF J would be up there however CX are more proactive in ensuring that the glass is never empty :p )

worst: Ryan Air....nuff said!
