Boeing is starting work on the 1,000th 777, a 777-300ER destined for delivery to Dubai-based Emirates Airline in March 2012.

Emirates is the largest 777 customer with 95 777s currently in its fleet and the 1,000th aircraft will be the Middle East carrier’s 102nd.

Some 970 777s have now been delivered, and with the upcoming milestone next year, the 777 will become the seventh heritage Boeing jetliner to reach the 1,000th delivery figure after the 707, 727, 737, 747, 757 and 767. The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 also exceeded 1,000 deliveries. Firm orders for the 777 now stand at 1,295.[/TD]

That is a pretty good achievement although for some reason it has not been on my favoured aircraft list.

And to be fair that is probably more to do with the economy configuration rather than the aircraft iteslf.

777 is a wonderful aircraft. I have always wondered why some people don't like it. Maybe something wrong in Y, i don't know. Never understood why QF didn't buy a bag of them over the years. A mixture of 200ER's and 300ER's would seem like the perfect plane for them on routes like BNE-LAX, SYD-SFO, NRT, MNL, HNL, BOM, PEK and routes like MEL - oh, I forgot QF don't really service Melbourne International :p

Anyway always thought it would have been a good one.

I have never understood why people have an affinity for a particular type of aircraft when flying them. I can appreciate liking different aircraft when you see them on the pan or flying but I am completely agnostic about aircraft type when sitting inside as for me it is all about the fit out - some airlines can take a perfectly good aircraft and fill it up with carp.
