Woolworths gift card thread

I'm happy with the offer. Will be buying the maximum permitted of 5 per day as long as I can find enough cards. They do seem to sell out.
You get 1000 EveryDay reward points for a $100 card worth $5 for a cost of $5.95.

EDR points are not worth a fixed amount. They are worth different amounts depending on what you redeem them for.

There is also the opportunity cost, how many free points are you missing out on by buying these cards and pushing up your spend xx_x get xx_ points weekly offers. I miss the days of buying petfood for the local shelter…..

Yes at Coles, but not for Woolworths.

We'd all like free points (I benefited from millions of fee free credit card sign up bonus points), but those days are gone. The reality is that the game is always changing. If you aren't prepared to adapt, you'll be left behind. I'm always happy to wave when I turn left when boarding a plane.

My Woolworths spend xx_ get xx_ points offers have skyrocketed since I had gift card spend, they don’t pay points on the spend outside promo offers but their algorithm definitely takes the $$$ into account when generating incentives to increase your spend, hence my warning about the opportunity cost.

Think my son will be the only one buying gift cards in the future ;), for a high schooler he spends a bit earning points.

It hasn't changed to the degree that these miserly offers would have you believe. Coles have recently run two better promotions on prepaid gift cards from the same company (InComm) and will do so again.

Woolworths could do more here but they probably just decided that removing the variable load cards and changing nothing else would be the easiest solution. If only they shared Coles' willingness to experiment then we might have had something like 8x points on the variable cards or 20x points on the $100s.

Does he care about a points club membership?

Another way to look at it would be in terms of QFF points.

This equates to $1,200 for 100k QFF points (excl any increasingly worthless Amex points). Better deals around but this an easy, virtually risk free way to accumulate points without stuffing your credit rating.

OT and discussed in more detail elsewhere (however J awards have been mentioned), but how those points can be spent is rather varied so the value of the points also is fairly unique to the individual. Here's a recent Points Hack article with some ideas that might help to determine if there's value in buying points in this way at that rate. There's a significant upfront outlay to obtain the cards/points too. Holding costs (for mortgagees for eg) together with award tix co-payments are two factors that are often ignored.

There is also the utility of earning points on non-qualifying spend such as gov/quasi-gov transactions where they only accept Visa/MC.

That said, I am of the school that I don't believe WW have fully committed to this policy going forward and I have shifted this and grocery spend to Coles where the WW incentives have been poor, and I've noted the increased generosity (still stingy but less so) in recent times, and have adjusted my spend in response. As a result, I don't plan to buy these anytime soon until it's clear they have committed to no variable cards.

Handy that the increased generosity has aligned with my new PC+ qualification year, but WW don't need to know that.

A bit laborious though, no? If time was money...
Yes there are other, somewhat intangible costs. Those may be offset by equally intangible benefits though. The thrill of the chase/kill or enjoyment of a pre-departure champers, for example.

If you convert a number of physical cards to digital cards and add them to your wallet, do they remain as individual cards/amounts or do they get combined into one digital card with the combined balance?
Note that currently ,TCN Restaurant gift cards, at the least , cannot be swapped to a digital card . Their website The Restaurant Card states Please note: the option to swap your physical card for a digital card is currently unavailable. Thanks so much for your patience!
Lets hope this is a temporary issue as the digital version of the card is one of the few things that makes this card worthwhile!

TCN Good Food gift cards can be used at:
  • 5812: Eating Places, Restaurants
  • 5813: Bars, coughtail Lounges, Discotheques, Nightclubs, and Taverns: Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages)
Unofficially, TCN Good Food reportedly also work at ‘5811: Caterers’ and ‘7011: Lodging: Hotels, Motels, Resorts: not elsewhere classified.’ Convert your physical TCN Good Food gift card into a digital one here (via the Go Digital button) so that you can add it your mobile wallet (e.g. Apple Pay).

Woolworths Gift Cards (and gift cards in the Rewards app) has now officially been combined into Everyday Gifting and is consistent across all platforms.
They're offering 1 Woolworths Rewards point per dollar on Woolworths Group and Partner Gift cards as a base earn, and hinting at other promotions (including discounts on gift cards and bonus points on gift card purchases), but no other promotions announced as yet. Definitely not an enticing offer given what else is out there.
The 'Your Pick' gift card appears to have been removed, but other gift cards have been added in its place.

It's now online for people to check out: https://www.everyday.com.au/gift-cards

The best thing is that the points are now instantly credited. Also, for anyone not interested in converting to Qantas you can now use Everyday Rewards points to pay for gift cards just like with Flybuys.

Is this a change to terms, or it’s just worked for you on a recent transaction?

I bought a WISH gift card to test since they currently earn 1x point per dollar.
Ok - I might have gotten excited about this in the wrong way. Given I can use EDR points at the POS at a number of WISH locations directly (WW, BWS & Big W), I was more interested in using EDR points for buying non-WW gift cards (like Apple, Accor, etc). Apparently you could always buy WISH gift cards via the everyday market using points

For a while you've been able to use WISH gift cards to buy products on the Everyday Rewards Shop but I don't believe they've ever sold gift cards. There have been other ways of turning Everyday Rewards points into WISH gift cards (e.g. placing a Big W order and then cancelling it).
