I just bought 6 X $50 JQ gift cards at Woolies @ 7am this morning and was charged $300, as I was expecting to pay.
This discount of 20% Must be a problem with random POS machines.
 
When calling hotel to book do they honour the rate on the website?

Yes - just ask for them to list all their prices available (make sure that you can see what is available online too).

At first she didn't think she could use gift cards over the phone, I read to her the back of the card, and then just wanted a scanned copy of the back of the cards (I did not scratch off the PIN) emailed it through and the booking was finalised and booking confirmation received in around 15 mins.

I ended up getting $100 cheaper for the 3 nights than what was showing online too....but I did have to dig for it.
Her idea of 'best price' was fully flexible, pay on check-in (umm, I've got pre-paid gift cards....I'll use them thanks), I was happy with non-flexible, no cancellation, and pre-payment.

And to correct earlier post. It was 3600WR points, not 2000WR I received last time.
 
I called Mercure Charlestown last week and the lady on phone was reluctant to accept the Accor gift cards for prepaid rate. Only wanted to accept them for flexible rate. Managed to convince her that prepaid rate should be acceptable. Forgot to get her name.

Fast forward to today and I am ready to make reservation. Call up and lady at reception won't honour prepaid rate. Spoke with manager who also refused to honour the prepaid rate. What do you do? Told them they were wrong.

Called Accor who were happy to honour the prepaid rate. Wanted to use my Accor number but to do that had to pay some cash amount not all in gift cards. The payment due is $270 so need to pay $200 in Accor gift cards and $70 with credit card. When I look at breakdown it is $121.50 and $148.50 so Saturday night more expensive.

This is too difficult. Not sure why they make it so difficult. Now stuck with $100 gift card and I don't want to stay anywhere in Australia and pay these ridiculous rates and cop this flak on top. Customer service very poor.

it infuriates me when peope or staff or managers just start making up their own rules for whatever reason.....
 
Power trip. They believe they are right, being a better employee to get recognition for enforcing the 'law'

We had an interesting conversation regarding gift cards and he has found a clause deep in the terms and conditions that mention "best unrestricted rate" only where everywhere else it states "publicly available rates".

He's not going to give up. Consider my reservation as unconfirmed. He will get in touch with Accor. If reservation remains they will charge my credit card the full amount. I said if he does that then I will initiate a charge back. He asked what's that? And I explained it to him.

This leaves bitter taste in mouth. I don't really want to stay there but then stuck with $300 in Accor gift cards. The $30 saving does not justify the time and effort I have put into making this reservation.

Think twice next time or better still don't stay at Accor properties in Australia.

its almost the same as arguing at a chinese restaruat over trivial things,

youd think that there is no real loss to the company and all of the bickering and arguing would do more long term damage for the customer and reputation of the hotel,

like the time my sony mobile went back to repairs 4 times in a month, because the phone simply wasnt even looked at, every time, till the end when they started blaming my sim card and apps as being faulty,

pity, because the phone didnt have a sim card in it, plus was factory reset,
in the end got the ombudsman involved, and they caved straight away, have never bought a sony again
 
Good news in all of this is called Woolworths rewards and they have added the $30 to my rewards card I should have got when the checkout person cancelled the $30 saving on JQ gift cards in last weeks promotion. Card didn't scan properly.
 
LOL at accor person. He must be the CEO or a tight person, because who really cares if the cusomter gets a discount or not. WOW some people. Reminders me of Harvey Norman managers and middle management.

Anyway not my problem. I'm hoping to get points/stay crefit gor this stay. And still stuck with $100 Accor gift card and I have no need for further Accor stays in Australia.

A semi decent out come..... It sux when you feel like you have had a small victory for them doing their obligation!

I just noticed a laminated sign above all the self service checkouts at my local saying "attention : please see staff before purchasing gift cards"

Chose queen and single which is ground floor. Not expecting much although he did say they will look after me as I am Gold.

Still this experience has not been a good one. What to do with the other $100 gift card? Going to Ozfest so don't need dinner and $25 for breakfast is about as steep as it gets.
