Hi all

I know a lot of travellers use this card - so I thought this was a great place to ask.

I am in the States (NY actually). When I go to withdraw money the atm tells me that they will impose a fee (around US$2-US$6) depending on where.

I understand this is a fee the US banks charge to use their atms - nice

is there anyway to get around this that anyone knows about?

any input appreciated - all RTW I have had no fees... except here lol

I was in NYC last November.

Walking round once is amazed at the ATM signs which are splashed everywhere...seems like thee is a machine every 30m!!!

However all of these, if not at a bank, should be ignored unless you are desperate as all will charge a fee.

At the banks. Some charge a fee, and some not. I cannot remember now which one's do or don't exactly. But as you walk around just pop into Chase, Bank Of America etc and insert your card to see if there is a fee. You will soon work out which banks impose it and which don't.

Thanks to both replies

just tried a chase bank tonight - and it did not mention fees

hoping thats a good sign!

will look over the other thread - cheers :)

When I was there the machines said up front if there was a fee. I suspect it is law over there.

Just looked back at my tx.
I used:

Chase
Bank of America.
TD Bank
Capital One

Chase was the one I used most.

I used ATMs in several states that all said that a fee would be charged, however Wizard never passed it on. I'm quite sure the amount of the tx was not changed to include the fee either. I thought this was a feature of the card - that ATM fees would not be passed on. Maybe I was lucky.

I suggest you were lucky.

If I withdraw, say USD100 with a USD2.50 ATM for the forex transaction shows up as a USD102.50.
