Hi,
Has anyone had experience using a Wise debit card internationally ?
Thinking of obtaining one for use in Europe and the UK.

I transferred from the usd bucket to the aud bucket. It wouldn't take it from the US bucket but would from the Aud one yet they both appear as the same listing in the app, just different currencies.
Have you checked you aren't having both 'bucket', 'jar' terminology conflated here.

You can have USD Jar (inaccessible by card) and USD Balance (accessible by card)

I do note that they have recently improved the money transfer functionality within the app to/from Jars. Originally you could only go from same currency balance to same currency jar. Now you can also change currency like inadvertently go from an Accessible AUD to Inaccessible USD jar.

I'm currently in Europe using Wise without issue.

I did get caught when an Australian merchant incorrectly processing a AUD subscription which I had cancelled. I had nothing in AUD so the right thing was that Wise took it from 2-3 currencies where I had small amounts intending to use. When the vendor refunded the AUD it just goes back to AUD and will incur another transfer fee when it comes time to use it. Annoying.

We used it a lot in Japan in April as we had stored yen. Used the same process in USA and it failed.

So I just created a new virtual card because I got a funny message about someone trying to access one of the other virtual cards and it's come up as a MasterCard and the others are Visa

Is this something new?

They aren't stopping anything. ATMs charge fees to Wise and they only want to absorb them for the first $400 per month.

If the ATM operators charge an extra fee, then I'm pretty sure Wise will pass that on to the customer and absorbs none of it.

Wise: "ATM operators may charge their own fees. Fee amount varies by ATM operator."

The implication is the customer may see another charge from the ATM operator.

Edit to add: Some banks do charge an international ATM fee. If I recall ING used to (and then rebate it). The new 2.69% for Wise is kind of like an international ATM (variable) fee.

Google found an example from CommBank Do charges apply when I use my Debit MasterCard or Keycard overseas? , so fees just for withdrawing your own money while overseas.

Correct. Debit cards like Macquarie, ING* and UBank don’t charge a fee at all to use an ATM overseas. Nor charge their own conversion fee. There will be the small VISA/MC fee built in.

But like Wise, you will pay any fee imposed by the local ATM operator. ING used to rebate those fees but dropped that years ago unfortunately.

*ING recently waived all ATM fees

So going back to your comments as I don't want to mess up again. This is what I see on the app. USD is on the far right.
I just want it set up with card accessible money. Can you see if this is ok?
