+1 what the Dr said.

Wait for the next Vintec offer probably be your best bet. Liebherr is another option, those guys do nothing but fridges and heavy machinery if you don't mind the lack of a glass door.

Have done a lot of reading online and am finding it very hard to choose a decent fridge. They are going in the lounge so need to look good and be relatively quiet.

Id love to get a Eurocave as in time two of those will go very nicely in the lounge but wow are they pricy. Transtherm was another brand that came recommended and just happened to see it on that website and for a lot less than the Eurocave.

Have also had a look at Vintec and Liebherr but the online reviews seem pretty average (not sure how much one can trust a lot of the review sites though).

I must admit that Vintec one you linked does look very nice and can get two for the price of one Eurocave.

If you dont mind me asking how long have you had your Vintec's for and how are they noise wise compared to the Transtherm?

edit - Might pop down to Harveys on the weekend and have a look.

Vintec(s) for between 3 and 5 years.

Transtherm for around 10 years.

Transtherm is definitely quieter.

I don't know how noisy a Transtherm is, but it can't possibly be any louder than the Vintec. I bought one in this year's Penfolds promotion and I'm incredulous at the racket it makes.

You know that it's an issue when the noise is specifically referred to in the manual. C'mon guys, if you have to confirm in the manual that being loud is normal, you should contact your design department to make some changes to your machine.

Be aware you may have to take out every 2nd shelf and stack wines since these fridges are made for smaller European bottles (not burgundy style). It's not a problem though. I've taken out four shelves from mine.

I have 2 large Vintec, 1 from this year and 1 last year's Penfolds promo and they both are running very well and are not noisy. Been pretty happy with them so far.

I have two Vintecs. One has "penfolds" branding and it is amazingly loud. When it kicks in it can be heard through the entire house

I bought my Kitchener from these guys in Willetton. They recondition and give 12 months warranty. Very helpful and nice people. If you let them know you're coming, they'll turn the fridge on so you can check it out for noise and operation. They may give free delivery and instalation if you ask. And no, I'm not Ed the Fridgeman, just coincidence.

Currently they have this Vintec in stock.

I had also considered buying direct from Kitchener in Melbourne. Give them a call to discuss.

While not as pretty as something with a glass door, in terms of functionality and bang for your buck, you can't go past it. It isn't quite as ugly as it looks in the images. Liebherr is superior to the Chinese branded stuff Vintec etc. Incredibly energy efficient too and a decent size. Now unless all your bottles are Bordeaux, you aren't going to achieve the claimed capacity. However, with a mix including some magnums and some half bottles I managed about 280-290 in this. Had it for about 5 years and only sold it as I moved to a house and built a cellar.

Thanks MrEd,

I quite like the look of this actually

Chatelet 302 - Kitchener Wine Cabinets

Pity there is nowhere in Perth to see them.

Also (and yes I know its product review) but the only reviews I can find on them are on there and they have a 1 star :(

I went and had a look at this one yesterday at HN, was a very impressive looking unit and door was very solid.

Very tempted.

You wont be disappointed.

But if you can wait, I'd encourage you to think about the next Penfolds offering. This type of fridge (or at least one very similar to it) would be about half price - of course with the purchase of some wine.

You know what that is quite the capacity.

Not sure if you know but can this one be placed on carpet?

You've convinced me! Took the plunge on the below.......Happy Christmas to myself. Have way too much quality wine laying around and living in WA, really needs to be looked after. Only issue is that it'll be full as soon as I get it....first world problems eh..

That's what I thought when I purchased it. Didn't take long to fill it up :)

Yes, I had mine on carpet. From memory it has four adjustable feet. Obviously its going to leave nice imprints in the carpet over time, so if that's a concern, just make sure you put something underneath.

Should have got the larger 312 bottle wine that I linked to then ;)

I should also add that these fridges are ridiculously quite. Also, when I moved I initially set it up in my garage. The garage got pretty hot at times and the fridge still maintained a steady temperature.

Thanks Daver6, just put in my order for this today as something large and out of the way to store some of our wine, very excited.

Almost bought the Vintec for the lounge but will wait for potential offers for that one.

One further bit of advice. Keep a record of where your wine goes in the fridge. At the very least which shelf its on. I used cellartracker.com for this. Makes finding a bottle much easier than emptying out the entire fridge looking for it. From memory I just allocated a number to each shelf and also noted whether it was put towards the front of rear of each shelf.
