I stand corrected of course most humbly eating pie now

Good motivation to bite the bullet and get bluetooth headphones. Headphone cables have been bothering me for years, and they're always the point of failure on my headphones so will be glad to be shot of them.

Good point. I was dead against the BT but now on reflection I have purchased about 20 Bose adapters over the years.

For those of us who cannot wait use the above link to CNBC for some interesting stuff about 7 & the decrease in the magnitude of lines outside the stores. Most were pre ordering or buying online !! Below two small excerpts from a longish article !

1 . Industry watchers have given the new handset reviews that are solid, but not earth-shattering. Still, Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi said that the pool of existing iPhone users is about 50 percent higher than two years ago, which could raise iPhone sales to consumers in need of an upgrade, regardless of the 7's specs.

2. Most impressive to Mossberg is the doubled memory at every price point, and a battery that easily survived 13- to 15-hour days, at least for the iPhone 7 Plus. Mossberg also praises the camera's zoom, which he suspects is a huge deal for the average user.
"In fact, this beautiful zooming dual camera is the first feature I've seen that might lure me to a large-screen phone," Mossberg writes.
The waterproofing was also a plus for Mossberg, who successfully left an iPhone 7 submerged in a large mixing bowl of water for about 20 minutes — "no rice need

Some feedback about the home button. A couple of colleagues purchased the new phone. Both myself and the fanbois agreed that the haptic feedback on the home button is a little strange and doesn't feel natural.

There was a report on ABC radio yesterday (so it must be true), that the headphone jack is still there, its just been concealed by the hard case.

It should be possible to drill through the case to find out.

Care to have a go, Princess Fiona?

According to Apple: And RECODE http://www.recode.net/2016/9/13/12896952/iphone-7-review-mossberg

"In this case, I see zero evidence that the 3.5-[millimeter] audio jack is being used less or has hit a wall. It's happily transmitting music, podcasts and phone calls to many millions of people from many millions of devices as you read this sentence.

And proof that audio jack has been removed:

Apple says it needed replacing to make more room for bigger batteries and other components. I also don't see that Apple has come up with a better replacement. The company is clearly trying to move the whole industry towards wireless audio, which has never been great due to patchy Bluetooth connectivity, poor fidelity — especially for music — and limited battery life. ....

The iPhone 7 went on sale in stores. Here's what people are saying.

My local Telstra store was busy yesterday, but they commented that a larger number of people are pre-ordering. I guess the strength of the brand is such that people don't need to inspect it before committing.

The kids are having great fun showing me the what the new phone can do ... ended up getting a Black 256GB 7. Went with the local boys who provided a full service changeover with cover, screen protector and a few other things.

I haven't read around to find out, but my impression would have been that there should be no degradation. Bluetooth shouldn't really be flaky technology, especially at a distance less than a metre away.

I have found my BT headphones to be flakey at distances of less than 1 metre. Today I had my phone in my jeans pocket and the sound cut out a couple of times while I was doing the housework etc. That's madness, and it's not like the battery was going flat or anything. Perversely, it will reach a good ten metres horizontally if line-of-sight is maintained.

I just spent $400 on Bose QC35s, so I you can pry my headphone jack out of my cold, dead hands. (I have a Samsung S6 currently)

The brand certainly is strong, but otherwise if someone deemed it not to their liking, they could probably return it for a refund quite easily, or sell it on (for nearly or absolutely no cost).

I was doing a bit of light research this evening and it appears that the iPhone 7 is sold not with wireless buds but rather regular wired headphones but with a Lightning connection rather than 3.5 mm audio jack. Seems a bit mean - I'm sure Apple was intending to push the wireless solution.

Yep, the AirPods are a $230 extra.

Does anyone else see the irony that they are pushing wireless as a solution, yet don't implement wireless charging like others have done?

Definitely won't miss the headphone jack when I eventually move on from my work 6S. I'm sure audio manufacturers will start selling wireless adapters for phones and planes eventually as a middle ground.
