Will QFF status match me as a Virgin WP?

Anybody have any experiences of Qantas matching their Virgin status?

I am a recent WP with Virgin but sometimes fly with Qantas and wouldn't mind lounge access plus other benefits.

Pretty rare for QF to do a status match, almost non existent, their policy has always been that status must be earned, with the obvious exceptions for CL.

Unless your Boss is a CEO of a large corporate that has just been made CL because he was stuck on the tarmac in F for 5 hours without any assistance from QF and is about to take all of his company's business elsewhere and you ask just at the right time - No.

Have to agree with markis10 and simongr. Start considering use of your FF points for JASA's to get Gold and access Lounge that way - or pay for the privilege of Lounge access

I tried and failed.

In all fairness to QF they probably have this request from every second NB.

VA's theory behind the status match would have purely been to start winning market share and recent numbers show they have.

While QF is still the dominating force in business travel, they probably wouldn't do anything.

It seems to be fairly rare across the OW Alliance - especially at the top tier level. The only comp status I have seen has been for CX Diamond for Amex Plat (cent?) card holders.

Why would they status match?

Because you think they should to get your business, just give them the business if that's what you want to do.

Unfortunately for the OP there are very few airports where it is useful..

Like the others have said you have no chance of a status match. Best bet is to see who is flying that may be able to guest you.

I'm QF silver (with qp) and asked them to match virgin gold - refused. Oh well.

Perhaps if you booked and paid for a tonne of travel with QF over the next few months (1000 SCs worth perhaps), then contacted them, they might be justified in considering it. But in my view QF would be crazy to hand platinum status to someone who may well do nothing more than buy a few red e-deals when prices happen to be low.

As it happens, QF do make it easy to get "lounge access plus other benefits" when flying them only occasionally - buy a QP membership, or a J class ticket.

Not a match, but when my dad had troubles getting to Diamond a few years ago and I told him a well routed DONEx would get him to QF WP in one go he booked it all and at the last minute told CX what he was about to do… and was instantly given a free year of Diamond!

When Malev folded a few OW carriers (BA and CX at least) did allow status matches with those who had status with Malev. That is almost a special case.

Not anymore, that offer finished last year.

That offer as a campaign has ended but virgin have stated they will assess things on a case by case basis subsequent to the closing of that deal.
