Hi,

I bought a ticket on expedia

The outbound journey is SYD-SIN on Qantas then SIN-USM Bangkok Airways. The layover in SIN is 1h 15m.

Will my luggage get checked through the whole way?

Is this enough transit time?

Is it my problem or the airlines problem if the qantas flight is late?

Thanks,

Hi there greeny923, welcome to AFF,

if it is on the same ticket your luggage should be checked through from SYD, if I remember correctly QF and PG operate from T1 in SIN so the transit should be ok, I have had shorter transits in SIN and never had an issue.

Sorry to put a damper on things but I am not actually sure your luggage will be checked through unless something between QF & PG has changed recently. In 2011 I was booked HKT-BKK-SYD on PG and QF all on the same pnr and when I got to the airport to check in the PG check in staff were very concerned because they couldn't check my bags through to SYD for me as they had no interline agreement with QF and the flight from HKT was delayed so my 2 hr lay over in BKK was looking very tight. The PG staff in both HKT and BKK were amazing in going over and above to help me make my QF flight but it was touch and go for quite a while and I got frowned at by the QF check in staff at BKK for only just making it in time. I was most annoyed at my travel agent over the incident as she had assured me they could interline and that 2 hrs connection would be heaps when I suggested it would be a bit short. Maybe check the PG website as from memory (when checking for another trip) they have a full list of airlines they interline with on their website and it will show if QF have been added to the list.

I just did a quick search on ITA and for a QF - PG combo to HKT, the shortest layover that they sell is 2 h 15m.

Hopefully the fact that the layover in SIN is an international flight to international changes things.

I just assumed they wouldn't sell a ticket with a 1h15m layover if there is no luggage arrangement.

QF is not mentioned:

In addition, Bangkok Airways has Interline Traffic Agreements with international airlines such as All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Czech Airlines, Thai Airways International, and Swissair. Passengers can make Bangkok Airways’ flight reservations and purchase tickets through those airlines. The airline also has the codeshare agreement with Ethihad Airways, EVA Air, Air Berlin, KLM, Air France and Malaysian Air.

strange how experiences with the same airline can be so different. April last year I booked flights from USM to SIN and a separate QF ticket from SIN to FRA, in USM the check in agent said let me just call my supervisor and he can check your luggage straight through but you will have to pick up the QF boarding pass at the transit desk in SIN. That was all that was involved, so in our case the flights were not even on the same PNR.

It is weird isn't it? Maybe it is a domestic to international vs an international to international thing as I really didn't get the feeling that they could but just didn't want to check my bag in at all the but rather that the really could not do it as they did seem genuinely concerned. The service I received from PG to get me on that QF flight (outside of the not through checking the bags) pretty much ranks as best I have ever had from an airline. They put me in the front row for quick exit, gave me and my bag a quick transfer sticker, when the plane went from 15 mins delayed to 45 mins delayed came and found me in the gate lounge in HKT and said they had made special arrangements for me in BKK which involved me being met at the door of the plane escorted onto the tarmac my bag being pulled straight out of the hold and handed to me on the tarmac and then a lovely PG lady escorting me right through BKK (including through some back doors) to the QF check in area to make sure I got there as quickly as possible all this not even being a member of their ff program let alone having any status. I have flown PG a few times but only ever domestically in Thailand so their international flights might be different with only and hour transfer time I would perhaps ring and check so you know what to expect.

Thanks guys. Hopefully it's a international to international thing.

I'll give them a call on the weekend.
