I use WiFi on EK fairly regularly. It's a slower technology than that being touted by QF, but it its very useful to while some time browsing the web, doing emails, sending iMessages, etc.

EK announces that you can use your mobile phones to make calls, but I've never tried it and never heard anyone else make a call. However, people might be making calls but I just can't hear them because of the lower seating density on EK than QF domestic.

It would be nice if all the gamers start playing at long haul sleep times, of course just imagine using Apple Facetime then we can hear all conversations, not forgetting news videos and You Tube, hopefully onboard Wi Fi will be so slow the latter can't happen .

In a way I think you are right. It's about filtering and ignoring. Plus it looks silly if someone looks like they are talking to themselves in public.
This. I was driving in an inner city area of Melbourne the other day and saw a guy walking down the street gesticulating wildly and talking loudly to himself. At first I thought it was just another loud idiot with a bluetooth phone. On closer examination, I realised it was just your standard "nutter", hard to tell the difference these days!

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Has QF WIFI been discussed anywhere?

Our customers are a step closer to experiencing world-leading inflight Wi-Fi, following the successful hardware installation on our trial aircraft last week.

We're continuing to work closely with technology partner ViaSat and will do a number of ground and inflight tests of our new Wi-Fi system before making it available for customers early next year.

Once launched our Wi-Fi service will feature speeds up to 10 times faster than conventional onboard Wi-Fi, giving you the ability to stream movies, TV shows, the latest news bulletins and live sports.
We're rolling out inflight Wi-Fi

I thought I read yesterday there was a delay.

Not that I'm aware of, but AusBT has mentioned that we might not see QF with any wifi onboard until at least first part of 2017.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

It was in a QF corporate email that I don't recall getting in the past - fast enough to stream video sounds good but that's a lot of data and I'm sure it would be expensive

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Domestic only for now, unfortunately.
