Hi all,

My wife and I went for a short hop from HBA to MEL this week on discount economy with the double status credit promotion to get her the last 30 points she needed before her end-April membership year for her first ever gold status upgrade.

Trouble is, we have subsequently discovered she failed to register for the DSC promotion 😳😭🤬

She will therefore be ten points short for attaining gold status.

I understand from previous threads that getting in on the DSC after close of registrations is a lost cause. Has anyone had any success begging for a status upgrade 10 points short?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I haven’t seen any reports of QF showing any mercy here, particularly for qualifying for the first time. Given the benefits of gold, a cheap fare to get those 10 status credits (not points), with maybe coming back on a FF redemption, would be a good investment probably.
I’d absolutely agree with you, were it not for the fact that her membership year ends tomorrow 😂

If I were her, I'd be booking a quick day trip from Hobart to anywhere on any Qantas flight, for travel tonight or tomorrow!

I know it's a pain, but I'm completely serious. Qantas won't comp her and it's worth the effort to get to Gold if she's only 10 status credits short.

E.g. she could fly HBA-MEL tomorrow at 12.40pm on Qantas for $270 (yes I know it's expensive... last minute pricing) and return on a Classic Reward booking at 7.30pm.

The 10 SC need to be earned within the next 26 hours and 45 minutes.
Yep, probably a min of 48 hrs for GT leaves to post. They can all be done in one day (the flight offset should post before actually flying).

Does she travel a lot without you? Otherwise might not be much benefit for both of you to be Gold.

Hi all, many thanks for your constructive (and some amusing) suggestions.

Failed to mention that we were mid trip to Melbourne yesterday, flying back to HBA last night, so a short status hop wasn't really an option.

Regardless, I thought you would all be interested (surprised?) to know that she had success today with a comp to gold after calling the QFF contact line.

Cheers,

Great outcome! This is a really interesting data point and definitely the first instance I've seen this being offered after reading many posts on this forum for a number of years!
