Hi my family and I were flying BME-MEL direct on 30 September. This date happens to coincide with the tail end of Victorian school holidays so I would assume there was healthy demand. Flight has been cancelled and now we are flying via PERTH. There now only seems to be 2 direct flights per week BME-MEL. I seem to recall 4-5/ week. So what gives ?

They are canceling direct services and general availability across the board. Everything now goes via the nearest hub.

Stuff the passengers - “just suck it up princess”.

During the height of the border closures there were direct PER-HBA flights daily, something us sandgropers very much enjoyed. They've now ditched that and turned it back into PER-MEL-HBA, which is slightly disappointing.

Why? Maybe QF staff really do read AFF and have decided to follow our oft repeated advice:
"Why fly direct, when you can connect?"

On a positive note if will mean more points, SCs and sectors, i.e. ~.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The years of uncertainty with International Travel, Domestic hotspots & State Border opening / closures, it forced QF to launch these new direct routes however as many probably expected, the route expansion was always probably not feasible long term once QF reviewed their fleet & crew based on forward booking demand and government / airport support.

QF retains 3 weekly direct services to Hobart although surprisingly VA are still more dominant with direct flights also to Launceston launching back up in October.

With BME having 3-4 flights daily to connect onto MEL, QF are no doubt optimising their resources.

Also ditched HBA-ADL direct and some HBA-SYD routes/ services.

And more cost, unfortunately.

I think you'll find it's to do with lack of tech crew or other such resources

I think ultimately that’s correct, but I think it’s funny how there’s fewer tech crew and resources available now then at the height of the pandemic.

Combining two or more flights into one and making it sold out is also a nice way to save money😋

My MEL-AKL flight in mid-November was cancelled last week.
Seems a lot of flights have had the CNX stamp hit them.
