Why QF points are worthless (multicity booking rant)

QFF points are not so much useless as rather of some value with effort!

I have some items at home. In theory they are worth a fair amount. But if I wanted to liquidate them immediately I would not realise their full value. Indeed if I wanted the value very quickly many items would be worthless.

QFF points are a bit like that that. They do have value, but it normally takes time and effort to maximise value with them.

Furthermore they are not as valuable to me as some other FF programs I use. There are also some FF programs that I would love to use, or to use more, but I cannot earn points in them. So while they may be a great FF program that makes them either worthless, or worth little, to me.

There are some FF points I would not have if I was not in QFF as they are only QFF point earning opportunities. ie the current 75K QFF points for $0 (150K for wife and I).

If I have a choice of which credit card I will use, then I will use the one that earns me a good conversion rate to Krisflyer. QFF CC cards at present are mainly devices that I use to acquire FF sign-on bonuses. And I am not going to ignore these QFF gift-horses anytime time soon, as much as I may wish they were AA or KF gift-horses instead.

So yes, I very much wish that QFF points were easier to redeem and that their fuel fines were not so costly. But are they worthless? No they have value.

PS: QFF is certainly not my first choice FF program....

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I always used to think flying to Europe via HKG was "going the long way". That was until I actually looked more closely at the route, and visited HKG to appreciate its attractions as a stopover (greatly exceeding SIN's IMHO).

100% agree. When one's source is Oz and one's destination is EU, and the option of a layover enroute is a goer, (IMHO) one of the best stopovers for a day or 3 is HKG. Been to Singapore once, have no desire to ever go again but HKG is just such a fascinating place, and tons of great restaurants! :-D
In fact two years ago, we had a real comparison as we went outbound Qantas MEL to Dusseldorf via DBX and returned with Cathay via HKG and the latter journey just had a better vibe end to end.
