I'm mostly QF and I do have Air NZ.

I was thinking of crediting to Air NZ instead of signing up again ...

Anyway Tried to join United Mileage Plus but always get an error when I try online.

Any thoughts on this for a UA flight, since I prob will never fly them again?

Is the flight going to give you enough miles for anything? Credit to something like SQ KrisFlyer and if you have AMEX MR points then you can top up and use for a flight.

Personally I would credit to BD Diamond Club even with the uncertainty of the airline and FF program.

Personally I credit to the airline which flies routes that I am likely to be able to redeem on. If you're likely to want to fly to/in NZ, credit to Air NZ, or likewise for the US/United.

Although it is possible to redeem on partner airlines, often it's a bit of a hassle, not available via the website, no specials, etc... Always seems easier and better to redeem for an airline's own flights.

If you credit to ANZ, you can continue with them as your second program after VA become their partner - also giving you coverage on that option. Same choice would be with SQ Krisflyer.
