Which program to target - family trip to LA/Vancouver/Alaska

Hi Everyone, I’m planning a trip to Western Canada in July 19 - and am starting to think about the best solution to getting 4 people to LA/Vancouver/Alaska. I normally target KrisFlyer but can see that the high redemption rates make this strategy less appealing for North America. I’m happy to fly in groups of 2, if it makes it easier to find seats. Has anyone got any suggestions for which programme I should target (or strategies to fly business)? Qantas/Velocity/Alaskan/Aadvantage?

It is difficult to get a direct flight to North America on points. However, I have had a lot of success with Cathay via Hong Kong, Japan airlines and Air New Zealand. All of these fly one stop to Vancouver from Australia bypassing LAX. If you have a lot of Qantas points, look at Cathay or Japan. Sometimes, it is much easier to use two programs and fly one way with each.

Target Qantas. Expect to redeem a CX flight via Hong Kong. Very successful strategy for me.
