Hi all,

I am flying business from NAN to LAX with Fiji Airways (One World). But the ticket has a Air NZ flight number (Star Alliance).

Does one any know:
1) If I should claim points under the Qantas or NZ Airpoints program (i am a bronze member in both programs)
2) which lounge I could access in NAN and LAX?

Sorry if these are obvious questions, this is only the second time, I have flown business class.

Thanking you all in advance.

It’s my understanding, as an infrequent flyer, that whoever you bought the ticket through is where you claim the points from. So if you bought a Fiji Airways fare, you claim against a One World scheme (ie. your Qantas one).

The lounge access, though, I don’t know. If nobody replies here, there are heaps of reviews out there. I believe that the QF lounge in LAX is pretty new, so that’s a fairly good bet there - but Google it up for sure!

Youu are flying an NZ flight which just happens to be operated by FJ.

The points are *A

FJ is not a OW member. Rather it is a OW connect partner.

The benefits provided by FJ under the “connect” scheme are only to customers of OW member airlines and extra benefits may accrue to customers of its “connect” sponsor airlines : QF, AA, BA, CX.

You are a customer of NZ, so there are no OW benefits. There may be some *A benefits associated with the codeshare between NZ and FJ which may be similar to the OW connect partnership. That you are flying J makes the issue of benefits largely moot.

The lounge should be the one run by FJ - I think it’s called FJ premier lounge (which is also the one QF uses) but it’s not a OW benefit, just a codeshare benefit arranged between NZ and FJ.

Thank you so much for clarifying Quickstatus. Very much appreciated.

It now makes more senses as I thought it would be strange for the OW lounge to let us in with a NZ flight number.

It’s not a OW lounge. It’s a FJ lounge. They let in passengers travelling on FJ aircraft who are OW, *A, SkyTeam, also KA passengers. They also let in Priority Pass members and anyone else flying with any airline who is happy to stump up $100

In LAX,
As it’s a NZ ticket for the return, you should be able to access the *A lounge, but not the OW J lounge.
While FJ J ticketed passengers can access the OW J lounge in LAX, as there is a *A lounge in LAX , NZ will send you there rather than pay for you to access the OW lounge.

Lounge access and points are handled by the marketing airline. The operating airline does not deal with aspects of the ticket which are not related to the flight unless there is an arrangement to do so
On the other hand checkin is handled by the operating airline because this is inherently a part of operating a flight. So checkin is at the FJ counter.

It gets really murky when flight disruptions occur. This is when the buck passing start

Wow, that's great information Quickstatus. I was going to check if we use the NZ or FJ check-in desk in LAX, but you have answered that for us. Thank you so much.

Fingers crossed there won't be any delays or cancellations.

cheers
