my wife and i have 600,000 points with QFF. we intend to get the points total high enough so we can fly to either london or the US first class, including 4 business class domestic flights. we are averaging about 80,000 points to the QFF each month:D.
when this is achieved, we are thinking of transferring points to krisflyer or royal orchid plus and accumulate points with the star alliance group .
my questions:?: are!!!

should we continue to transfer all points to QFF. or change to
Thai Air or Singapre Air. and if so which is the better of the 2. Thai or Singapore

regards

for 600,000 QFF points affording first class award flight (using classic awards) will be no problem. Finding award first class seats with QF however will be a problem. (Not many are released, and you can't really be flexible with days for the ones that are)

As for domestic business class flights, well that depends from where to where do you want to fly? A business class flight will require far less points flying LAX - SFO than LAX - JFK. Given you already have quite a few QFF points under your belt I'd personally stick with QFF, rather than starting over with Singapore or Thai (although you never actually mentioned how many points you have with either airline.

Also in regards to QF award flights, consider booking the flights through a OW code share partner.

my wife spoke to QFF on the phone and was told by a very helpful gent that it is easier to book first class with them on the ph as they can see what is really available(we don't mind using the extra points to get what we want) he could give us anyone of 3 bookings we were looking for.

as for my domestic fights. they were in Oz.

i have 20,000 points with Thai, and i am a new member with krisflyer, my reason for going with a star alliance member Thai or Sing was because there lounges are far superior than any of the Q lounges we have been in, Oz, KL, Sing & HK

also, how do we book flights through a OW code share partners. and how do i find out what all the abbreviations mean EG; DJ FJ etc

regards

I'll leave using QFF points on other carriers to someone which more experience on the matter.

As for the abreviations check out the following link -

Once again dom flights in OZ, same problem... If it's from SYD to MEL it will be cheaper than SYD - PER. It's even possible to fly for free in J if tacked on as part of another flight. (AKL - MEL in J class is 36,000 points. AKL - MEL - CBR in J class is still only 36,000, thus the MEL - CBR leg was at a cost of zero points)

Just out of interest, how are you earning 80,000 points a month... That's an impressive earn rate... (and no wonder you don't care about phone booking fees)

are averaging about 80,000 points to the QFF each month:D.

Assume this is through credit card spend. I'd be at least hedging my bets and sticking half the spend through a cc that (can) go to SQ (or other) programs. Long distance Y & J awards usually takes less - and in some instances a lot less - points than with QFF, and I have found a lot much more availability than QF.

QF's pearl is the oneworld award that allows up to 35,000 miles of travel, it is excellent value in whatever class. In fact if I was looking to earn the 768K pt you require for both to go to London (return) in First Class, why not go all out and get the 840K for FC RTW and hit London and US together!

For credit card earnt points the other awards (other than domestic flights in Australia) QF are usually more expensive than if they went to SQ, although SQ awards in First Class are becoming limited and expensive (as no awards on A380 and expensive awards on the 777-300ERs). For J travel SQ's travel is good value though.

Sorry, first of all welcome to AFF! My oversight for not checking your post count.

On Australian Frequent Flyer (AFF), and in a lot of travelspeak, Y is commonly used as an abbreviation for economy, J is an abbreviation for business class, and (logically this time) F for first class.

Please see the link in post 4 for abbreviations and explanations.

A first class Qantas Frequent Flyer "oneworld" award cost up to 422,500 Frequent Flyer Points plus taxes per passenger when booked over the telephone.

You can have up to 5 stopovers, travel on up to 16 flight segments for a maximum accumulated distance of 35,000 miles.

There are several versons of these:
  • 140,000 Economy versions (WHY),
  • 210,000 Premium Economy (PE or Y+)
  • 280,000 Business (J) and
  • 420,000 First Class (F)

More here:

I'm excited !!!!!!! I did not realise you could get RTW in "F"
