Which is the best suitcase/luggage?

Just want to report that my Antler set arrived in mint condition from luggage direct. :D

Only annoying thing was I had to travel down to an Australian Post distribution centre which is about 15 mins away by tram, and then cart everything into a taxi to get home. But apart from that - the service from Luggage direct was grand and they were happy to answer any questions I had on the phone. :)

The irony is that if you forego the tax deduction and buy the luggage in the states you'll save more money.

Tell her if you don't buy it now it'll no doubt go up in price soon, and that ultimately it'll cost a lot less than if you had opted for the Samsonite ("shivers with dread"), as it'll last about ten years longer.

"It's O.K. dear I'll get the Samsonite, at that price I can buy a new one every year", and under his breath utters, will bloody well have to, as well.

Well it is official I am Tumi'd up :D In other news Tumi prices dropped yesterday by almost 20%
so I "saved" $210 - that's what I opened with to mrssimongr - it's my story and I am sticking to iT!

Good stuff, the missus will come round in the end.

She went out and bought a leather jacket and plnety of clothes as compensation yesterday ;)

The worst part was I had to sit in the store whilst she chose them and give my opinion on them - there are only so many games of patience one can play on a pocketpc until teh battery gives up :(

A second battery is a small and valuable investment :p

Well - at least I get to tour comic shops in London free of intervention and none of it will be visible when I return to Oz ;)

Mind you I might have to go to Tiffany (again) in NYC...

....and the time line may well have been deliberate you realise.

Does anyone know if luggage is cheaper in Australia or Singapore?

Also, where can i get Tumi in Perth?

thanks

Chucksta

Just wondering in my current situation whether th Tumi tracer program is actually of use - if baggage handlers find that a bag that has no tags or lugagge stickers and see it is Tumi - will they open it, find the tracer and tell Tumi?

After the current events this might be a value add benefit that had not been factored into the initial purchase.

S

P.s. No google results for Tumi in Perth - maybe one of the other sellers might ship to Perth?

From what i have seen SIN is a good amount cheaper, but i think it depends on what your after. Lots of cheaper stuff.
Never paid that much close attention since in AU i only ever got stuff when on big sale from Myer etc.
End of July is big sales if that helps !

Evan: Where is a good/cheap place to get quality luggage in SIN?

I was there a few months ago and noticed that CK Tang and Takashimaya were quite expensive - especially for Delsey, Samsonite, Lojel.

To be honest i have not looked around that much, only purchased a couple of bags myself because i did not want to take a huge back home with me last trip. I will see if i can find out from a few of the locals the best places.
Any of the shopping centres has places that sell bags.

I generally only have purchased cheaper brands myself since they tend to get trashed easily anyway.

Do you have any models your interested in or sizes ? it can keep me occupied to check a few prices later in the week for you.

A 4 wheel upright trolley type suitcase. Either Delsey or Samsonite or any other well known brand.

Would prefer hard case, as it doesn't have any outside pockets that need securing.

Thanks Evan!

Personally I don't think it matters if your luggage looks a little shabby - it is less likely to be pinched. The baggage handling is always rough - even if you are flying business. I watched out the window of the airport down at the plane recently as my luggage got rained on for about ten minutes. Makes no difference if you fly Jetstar International - lost my baggage two out of two times. Bags turned up so damaged it took 7 months of emails (68 of them) to someone in their claims department in Asia to get reimbursed.

Made me wonder when I bought the Tumio suit bag yesterday why I bothered to ask for one that wasn't scratched - given first time it is used it will be scratched by baggage handling...

Hi there,

Need new luggage. One suit case style bag with wheels.

Best brand and function for bag?

Trip 3 weeks in America(Holiday) and constant back and forward QLD to Vic(work)

I immediately thought of Samsonite, but have been told after sales repair is poor!

Are Antler any good?

I use a strap to define bag.

Price is not an issue as tax deduction!

Need brand name/model/price/store from please.

Rgds

Despite price not being a problem for you, this is for everyone else who may be looking for the best prices for popular brand-name luggage.

You cannot beat Peter's of Kensington (www.petersofkensington.com.au) for price and speed/price of delivery - they are fantastic!
