Which International Sectors actually use Qantas Aircraft?

OK, so I haven't flown Internationally in about 3 years!

But planning a trip from Australia to Europe (Sydney-Madrid-Sydney) in March 2023.
Hoping to use Economy with upgrades.

The issue I always 'had' previously in booking these flights is working out which sectors are actually flown with Qantas aircraft.
I'm sure the ruling is the same, in that you can't get seat selection or points upgrades with partner Airlines like Emirates.
So Sydney to Dubai was always OK with Qantas, but Dubai to Madrid with Emirates meant no upgrades and bad seating.

I think Qantas does the Sydney to London sectors with their own Aircraft, but I'd rather not have to do 3 sectors each way (adding London-Madrid-London)

So is there a simple map or something that shows which International sectors Qantas actually fly themselves?
Or maybe I just have to shell out for Premium Economy to ensure better seating?
Budget won't run to Business :(
 
The only destinations in Europe that Qantas currently flies to with its own aircraft are London and Rome. Specifically, the routes are:
  • SYD-SIN-LHR
  • MEL-PER-LHR
  • SYD-PER-FCO
Perth-Rome is seasonal and won't be running in March.

There's no way to fly Sydney-Madrid at the moment using Qantas for any of the flights with only one stop. You can book an Emirates codeshare via Dubai, but you won't be on a Qantas plane for any of the journey.
 
There used to be a nice handy comprehensive pdf published by qantas with all routes, including codeshare, full timetable. Does that still exists? I would be keen to have access to it when needed, granted such a pdf would need weekly updates with the constant timetable and route change.

When Rome is not running, they should look at flying to a major air and rail hub on the continent like Frankfurt, Zurich or Amsterdam.

A lot of ppl heading to destinations in continental Europe want to avoid the LHR nightmare at all costs.
 
QF international own metal sectors tend to be in the range of QF1-199. QF400-2999 are domestic and regional. Anything with a 4 digit number is a codeshare eg: QF8xx_ tend to be EK).

Plus obviously on the QF website the llogo of the operating airline is shown and a note "Operated by..."

Anyway for this Madrid trip you'd be looking at SYD-xSIN-LHR r/t or PER-LHR for the long hauls. (or Rome if in Season as per above). So the options are limited for QF operated aircraft.

No. The last QF pdf weekly timetable I was able to download is dated 27-09-2021. QF removed the link from the web site before that, but I had book marked the link, which worked for a time. Were not 100% accurate for the last few months. Now nothing.

Would prefer to avoid LHR if I can.

Previously I flew Sydney-Dubai-Madrid.
Though I thought the first sector was a Qantas aircraft. Maybe not.

Is there any advantage in booking these flights via Qantas, or better direct with Emirates do you think?

QF no longer operates to/via DXB. @RichardMEL outlined the only routes that QF now operates re EU/UK

For a good experience in a premium class, why not consider AY RTW ticket (Finnair round the world). These seem to come up not infrequently. The fares can be very competitive.

Interesting option. I'll certainly take a look!
Though it's a very specific thing I'm going for in MAD with little time for side trips.
So EK with just one stop in DXB might be best.
I just realised I can squeeze in a business meeting too in DXB, which helps justify the trip :rolleyes:
 
The AW RTW sometimes come out with specials.
A friend got his for $5200 but SYD-PER-SIN-... rather than SYD-SIN-... In J
Obviously specials means not travelling at peak travel periods
