I'm arriving by AA domestic in LAX. Should I rent a car from Hertz at the airport or use a downtown location?

I've heard that you need to allow 30mins to 1 hour for paperwork and to get a shuttle bus to the car lot. Same when you return it, apparently..

Why go downtown LA unless you have to?Rent from the airport.6 months ago It was 30 minutes from leaving the plane and being with the Hertz agent.I had prepaid so the paperwork was quick.Problem then was we had an hour to kill before an appointment we had in santa monica.
We use globalCARS - Car Hire, Auto Leasing & Motor Home Rentals - Australia, New Zealand, Europe, USA - globalCARS
They use Alamo or Hertz. At present a fullsize for a week in CA is $A411 for Alamo and $A475 for Hertz.Sometimes the differential is the other way. These rates include all taxes and insurances.

We were about 30min from the plane to the airport Hertz lot back in December. Then about another 3min to find the name on the board, jump in the pre-allocated car and go. :)

As painless as any other major rental mob IMO...and a lot less painless than visiting a non-airport location.

Cheers,
- Febs.

How long is your rental for? Hiring at airport does involve silly bus rides away to where the Hertz location is so if you dont need it other than to get to hotel on arrival, I would get a cab and hire downtown ; cut down on a rental day plus avoid the airport surcharge
