Actually, UA miles now have an expiry date if you don't have any account activity for 3 years.
I think the expiry date for UA miles is 18 months but any activity, even purchasing 500 miles, extends all miles for another 18 months.

This has to be better than SQ or TG....

I always have SQ miles expiring since i fly them not very often and never get a chance to use them, well sometimes but not often.
I guess i should jion UA.

I asked some similar questions but they were different enough that I started another thread.

Having been a Krisflyer Gold member for more than a year I can confirm that SQ gives no more respect to its gold members who fly economy than it gives to other star alliance gold members. They have separate check-in and separate longes in Singapore etc etc such that there is no advantage in putting the miles through the SQ program compared to UA or TG.

All of the SQ kudos and goodies are based on their PPS program and they changed this a few years back so that there is no way to qualify travelling in economy.

I think I am going to have a closer look at TG although their scheduling does not look very convenient.

I would suggest Thai even if they don't operate out of my home state in that you can redeem awards for as little as five thousand points which is a years Sawasdee Magazines.I am newly enrolled in Royal Orchid Plus by the way having decided to join for a trip to Vietnam at the end of the year which by the way is with Singapore Airlines.

1. Wouldn't go anywhere near KrisFlyer. Was previously a member, but they lost all my miles, Eventually tracked down the times, dates and used boarding passes where available, and sent them off for reinstatement. Kris Flyer acknowledged receipt...and then lost them too.

2. I am a member of Royal Orchid and love flying Thai. I just wish I could find a credit card with direct points earnings.

3. Oh...and Qantas FF scheme gets worse almost by the hour. For Asia flights (esp Bangkok) Qantas is charging more points, replacing QF flights with Jetcrap* flights, and routing through anywhere but Sydney, and sometimes almost doubling the normal flight times.

Cheers

I joined TG. Got Silver status with 1 PER to BKK return flight (Q class and 2500 bonus points for first flight). Not that it means much though. Well, 10kg extra baggage is something these days and priority stand-by. Still, after 1 flight, it's a change l guess.

You have to get GOLD in the Star Alliance program before lounge access, which is 50,000 miles l think. That's alot of flying with no lounge access during that period, unless your in J or higher. This is where OW trumps Star Alliance. The OW Sapphire level where you can access other OW partner lounges is a huge be benefit over *Alliance GOLD. And first class lounge access when Emerald is reached is also a big improvement on *Alliance.

I personally think that there needs to be another level in Star Alliance. Like Ruby + Sapphire with lounge access too. BUT, l have read on the FlyerTalk forums and there seems to be so many GOLD *Alliance members nowdays, that getting GOLD, you don't get treated any better. Some people also say that the lounges aren't as good as OW, but then again, AA Admirals aren't the poster boy of lounges either.

This remains a conundrum to me.

I still hold Gold on SQ and they still treat economy pax like lepers.

Recently I used Thai for a SGN BKK return and I was unimpressed by the food offering in the TG lounge at BKK - I even went outside and bought some food because I knew that the short haul offering on the flight was not much.

And the TG scheduling out of Australia sux.

Would love to make CX work but that is too hard.
