I've already booked a holiday this Christmas in England - flying Qantas J Class (one paid and two on points). We've decided to take two short side trips to Berlin and Barcelona. My question dear forumers, is should we
a) book direct on the BA website
b) call Qantas and try add the trips onto the existing flights?

Don't care which class we fly, but do want to fly on BA. What would be the cheapest option do you think?

The paid flight may have a free side sector allowance, so the only real answer I'd suggest is calling Qantas and ask what your options are for that ticket. Changing may involve fees, so again you need to examine your options.

On the BA website, or Expedia or Opodo you should be able to get the flights for < 200 pounds return for each set. Points wise, it may not cost any more (but check) to make the change. There will of course be a 5000 point fee for changing the booking.

You should check availability on the desired flights for awards, as well as pricing a journey in J to LHR+the side sectors to see what the points difference would be. I'd guess one return side sector may not cost any more points.

Not really the complete answer you are looking for, but should give you some ideas.

Also, BA isn't the only airline that flies to Berlin and Barcelona, so a Expedia or Opodo may be good for getting a fare comparison of major carriers. Of course there are the low cost ones as well, but I presume you wouldn't be interested in them.

You do not indicate when you are flying in 2 weeks or 2 months or....

We flew twice on Easyjey last year after getting there on SQ and did not have a problem

For what it may cost in change fees alone you may be able to get there and almost back again

I would never fly LCC longhaul but other than Ryanair which has a very poor rep I find shorthaul LCC not a problem.

If you do book separatley on BA, you can call Qantas and ask for information segments to be inserted into your original booking. This will then show all the segments on the one itinerary.

Note, even after doing this, any activity with you newer BA booking still has to be done with the BA booking reference.
