I can't make my mind up here!

I had a trip booked that has been deferred (work plus play) but I have leave booked, cash in the bank and the need for a break!

I also need a few more points to re qualify for FF.

Criteria
- needs to be on EY, SQ or VA
- 10- 12 days
- under $2k airfare in Y
- need some chilling out time but then happy to wander etc (not an adventure holiday)
- last 2 weeks of March

anyone know any awesome deals around or have any suggestions you'd recommend??

Far north Queensland! best time is from April onwards, but end of march is good!

You could go to Los Angeles with VA for just over $1,000 return.

Vietnam isn't a bad suggestion. I also see you could go to Sri Lanka with SQ for just over $1K.

Sri Lanka for me. Pristine beaches in the south and cool mountain air where the tea plantations are in the centre of the island. Also several national parks with wild elephants and leopards to be enjoyed. We've been there twice (once for the cricket World Cup) and will go again.

cheers

Sri Lanka has promise. I had been looking at it.

What at would you suggest for a 10 day itinerary?

Wildlife aspect appeals as does some lounging time.

Japan. One of the few places Ive been that I want to return to for different seasons.

Fly into Colombo and stay 1 day. We stayed at the Galle face hotel, an old colonial hotel on the waterfront with loads of history.
From there catch a train up to the tea plantations. Places like Kandy, Ella or Nuwara eliya are serviced by the old colonial era trains. Spend a few days there and then down to the south coast via a national park.

We stayed at a place called Una watuna from memory, which was a very pleasant beach and reasonable accommodation. It is very close to the historic town of Galle with its rich colonial history. From there you can catch a train back to Colombo.

cheers

Thank you so much to oobi doobi! If you had not contributed to this thread I would never have visited Sri Lanka as it has never pinged my radar of places to visit.

But oh my!!

i know now that it will not be the only time I visit - I can't wait to return.

I will share a trip report soon.

I'm a fan of Sri Lanka though make sure that you get the one of the "special" tourist cars on the longer rail journeys.
Another option would be to get a driver for a few days to take the scenic route to some of the more interesting places and then get the train back.

On the wandering category I'm still grounded until June/July but after then I would be interested in seeing Sumatra and Lake Toba. Fly into Medan and overland to Jakarta. Happy to have a couple/three others join as Mrs WF would not be interested...

Happy wandering

Fred

Thanks for that Milboo, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have been there twice, once to watch Aust play in the cricket World Cup. I

see they are touring there again this July/August which would be wonderful to see especially the tests in Kandy and Galle. We will probably go there again next year as I love the hill country and will stay in a tea plantation for a few days before going down to the south coast.
