Almost instant results.
If you need a negative test to get back to work you can do the test and then go straight back to work instead of waiting 20hrs or worse for PCR results.
Things like this don’t help either with people waiting days for results only to be invalid

Fair point. Most ppl I know that need to test for work get their test sourced by work. But you make good point.

Invalid? Vic did recently decide not to process any PCR test over 7+ days Iirc

The ones I have (bought in December) are Roche / SD Biosensor. Wonder what it means that this isn't listed at all...

If not on the TGA approved list you will:
a. need to google to find out performance data i.e. how sensitive they are
b. risk having the result not accepted if you need a negative RAT for work etc, as not a recognised brand in Australia.

But watch the TGA page as several of the brands which are approved were only added in early January so they are clearly open to adding more brands. Suspect the importer needs to apply to have them approved.

Check the TGA list

Biosensor is listed as acceptable.

I believe Roche/SD Biosensor are the fourth/last one on the acceptable list - not that its clear from the name of the test - SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Self Test Nasal – Nasal swab

I purchased some of both the Rightsign ($49 for 5 and $19.95 for 2) and the Hough ($65 for 5 tests) kits before Christmas

Just opened the Hough kit, wow is it complicated compared with the other, you have to pour liquid into the tube (other brands the tubes come pre-filled, so you don't have to worry about spillage) plus there is the whole UV light extra step. I think that is where they are jacking up the price because they have to supply the light and the battery.

Also because you have to shine the light to see the result, you cant easily photograph your result, as I need to do today to send so I can attend a job tomorrow.

I will not buy the Hough Brand again.

Ah really? Damn, that seems crazy and so likely to get a user error in the process.

We bought a bunch of Houghs just before Christmas.
Medicine is rarely eco-friendly but the torch and battery included in each one did seem particularly wasteful

Agree it is very wasteful, as you have the extra packaging for the liquid separate from the extraction tube as well as a torch and battery in every box.

I'm not clear on what value the UV light adds? When other brands result can be read in normal light. Its not really giving any extra security.

Agreed on the Hough - quite a few complaints on my local forums that the torch didn't work or battery was flat.

But the reality is most people take what they can get.

Most kid friendly I found was Orawell. Instructions are to cough into a tissue. Then only mouth scrape. But then you have to keep the scope under your tongue for up to 2min to get enough saliva into the unit to take the fluid past the control line.

22 RATS at my place of work became non functional out of a box of 25

Reminder: Dont squeeze out all the buffer for 3 test.....
Offender sent to retraining...

The immunochemistry for Houghs means the T and C lines light up with UV light - hence the "fluorescent immunochromatography" on the box.
Panbios use gold immunochemistry so the lines are in red with visible light (IIRC)

The RightSign lines are black, very easy to read and photograph with no messaing around with uv light that photographs poorly.

I do not recommend Hough if other High or very High Sensitivity are available.

When I manage to pick up a box of another brand I will be donating the othe 4 unused Hough tests.

So as of today Chemist Warehouse have Rightsign test kits back in stock 2 for $20.

They also have the 5 packs, but wont sell these, as they are reserving those for the Health Card freebies - sending my elderly parents to go get a free 5 pack each this afternoon.

When I popped into Coles today they also had plenty of RATs (behind the smoking counter) but they were Hough Brand so I didnt buy any.
