Where to credit OneWorld flights now I don't need to credit to QFF?

Probably in the same boat as many. I was on track to easily retain my status (WP) this year, I've already got more than 500 SC to roll over. So there's no great value in crediting to Qantas for the rest of my year (feb-23)

Options

  • BA seems like the obvious one. Points are useful, other ways of getting them (shopping, my US CCs etc.) useful for short haul. I'm also way closer to lifetime OWE on BA than I ever will be on Qantas. Probably won't get status as I won't get the 4 BA flights, but you never know.
  • American - Again easy to top off, highly unlikely to fly them (no American travel planned for the foreseeable) so no benefits of status beyond qantas, but can top up the points easily, could even add an American Airlines CC
  • JAL - leftfield choice, most of my international flying is on JAL, they have some good promotions on FlyOn (status credits) right now. It's a bit of a shame my recent europe flights came before the extension because I could have (maybe) made it all the way to JGC Premier with travel plans as they are. Hard to top off the points but very good value redemptions.

Continuing with BA would be first choice
QR now use avios at the frequent flyer currency. Avios (but not status) can be moved to/from BA-IB-IE-QR, subject to the ffp t&c's.
You could look at getting status in another avios ffp (not BA)
When looking at partner flights can at times be different avios earning amongst the avios ffp's

QF life time OWE takes a lot more flying than BA

Having multiple ffp's with low balance-no status is generally not a good option.
Consider expiry of ff miles/points/avios

Another vote for British Airways.

And if you live in Australia, you can relatively easily get the 4 BA sectors you need to earn status by flying (for example) MEL-SYD-SIN-SYD-MEL with BA metal between SYD-SIN and BA codeshares operated by Qantas on MEL-SYD.

If you don't give a toss about status, then your best bet would be American since they don't charge fuel surcharges the way QF or BA does. One thing to look at as well is how you are doing towards lifetime status. It takes 7,000 status credits earned over your lifetime to earn lifetime Silver and 14,000 for lifetime Gold. Hence, it may very well make sense to continue crediting your flights QF even if it won't upgrade your status simply to keep accruing lifetime status credits.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks for the advice. Second question:

When and how should I put my a BA number in so I can still get my QF status benefits?

NB seat selection is not a benefit I enjoy, Qantas IT has blocked for me through the app and website for years. It’s really lounge access and priority screening most of the time.

One other consideration I thought I'd toss into the discussion that may be worth your while. Have you considered getting Lifetime Elite Plus status with SkyTeam member KLM/Air France (similar to OneWorld Sapphire)? The reason I ask, is KLM/Air France's FlyingBlue program will give you said lifetime status after just 10 consecutive years of having Platinum status (achieved after accruing 300 XPs, their equivalent of status credits). Using the status credit calculator on their site, two and a half trip to LHR from SYD would be enough to earn those status credits.

Food for thought!
