When ORC doesn't work in your favour

I recently had a missed connection in LAX so instead of taking AA73 LAX-SYD I was rebooked on QF12 LAX-SYD. I have been told by Qantas that I am only eligible for points/SC from AA73 (the flight I was booked on but didn't take), not for QF12. I can't see anything in the T&C that specifically addresses this. While I know there are many posts on here about ORC particularly when it works in our favour, is there anything preventing me from being able to claim the points and SC for the flights I actually took?

The difference in SC isn't particularly significant (180 AA vs 200 QF) but it's an extra 40% points earn as WP (on QF over AA) plus the SC would count towards Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward and P1 qualification if earned from QF so it's worth the hassle in my opinion. I just can't find anything online that states whether I'm within my rights or not to expect the QF SC rather than the AA SC.

If your FF number was in the booking for QF12, then as the flight you took, that would be the one that posts automatically, in the normal course of events.

What, if anything, has posted?

You get the points and SC for what you travel. It's up to you if you want to do a ORC claim.

I think you have correctly analysed the situation. There’s no downside to the original routing credit.

AA won't credit if they didn't travel on them.

You can email QFFF and specifically ask for ORC - original routing credit.

I would include in your email any point s and SCs you’ve already received, and the balance ‘owing’. They should be able to make a manual adjustment.

My FF number wasn't on the rebooked QF12 but I didn't notice this until I arrived in SYD. I added it in the lounge and points/SC successfully credited for the SYD-BNE connection.

This is what I'd prefer - points and SC for what I travelled (QF12). Qantas claim I have to accept points and SC for what was originally booked (so ORC), even though this doesn't work in my favour.

No codeshares involved. Originally booked on AA73 (with my QFF number attached). Rebooked onto QF12 (not AA codeshare) but for some reason my QFF number wasn't attached.

I did, and it was rejected. When I called to clarify, that's when they said I was only eligible for points/SC from the originally booked AA73 (which I never took), not for the QF12 which I travelled on.

For the rebooked flight, I don’t suppose you grabbed the booking code? I’d just be claiming ignorance and state (politely but firmly) that you want the points and credits for the flight you flew.

During IRROPS I’ve usually benefit (rebooked into full fare J on the direct MEL-LAX service when the SYD-LAX was delayed, despite having upgraded from Y) but AA may have put you instead into a restrictive bucket?

I've had something similar in reverse when I was booked on QF and they rebooked me onto VA. I added my Velocity number but VA said it wasn't eligible to earn points because Qantas had booked it under some sort of discounted corporate fare code and it wasn't a retail fare. So maybe AA has done something similar here with the QF ticket being booked into a non-earning fare bucket?

Well they are morons then. Call again and try again and again so you can get someone competent.
When you call them, keep it simple. Just say you are missing points for the flight. Don't even mention you were rebooked.
