When do you think we can travel again?

Ive got 100k in Asia miles points expiring at the end of this month and they cant be extended as these were points i had kept in my account for some years now.

Spoke with their customer service, and I can change flight bookings for $25USD fee per sector, but I have to fly within 1 year from the date I book.

Question is when and where to!

Just date changes or routing as well?

I think domestic travel can resume from June, interstate from July and International from September/October.

Back in January when everyone believes that Covid-19 is just like a flu we booked Travel to USA east coast in Sep.

Now we have just booked some fantastic hotels (Sheraton and the like) for a song in the middle of Manhattan to go with it, of course fully cancellable with no cost.

I guess when Sep comes we will make a call if
1. travel restrictions lifted from US and Australia, no quarantine / isolation requirement anymore
2. flights are all OK
3. Travel insurance cover somewhat.

now I can just imagine the trip....

My crystal ball hasn't arrived due to delivery delays, so don't really know when we can travel again.

What I do know is, as soon as QLD opens its borders and flights resume (hopefully by July-Aug), I'm going to use my "travel bank" credits to go and see my grand kids.

If it means I have to self isolate in QLD for 14 days ☀😎 🕺🍸🍹🏊‍♂️ while its winter in Melbourne 🥶🌨, there will be no objections from me.

As I work from home anyway, I won't have too much of a problem self isolating for 14 days on my return (I've been in self imposed isolation for 5 weeks so far anyway).

I think many are looking at when Australia will allow them to go, but the other factor is capability to receive of the of the country or countries that you want to visit/ go to.

For example I was just listening to the UK Transport Minister and with public transport in London if they retain (and his tone was that they will) social (physical) distancing they will only 10% capacity to move people about. That means that once people go back to work in London that getting around is going to be a nightmare. To be a tourist in such a city would be a problem indeed. More cycling and pedestrian travel is one of ways they are looking to move forward with.

We have no control over what decisions are made in other lands, so this may prolong our absence from foreign nations.

And by capability to receive I did not just mean other countries entry requirements, but also all the infrastructure required to host tourists, plus locations that tourists may wish to visit being open and able to be enjoyed.

I recall reading an article saying that Australia would open up to international travel with "safe" jurisdictions later this year. I presume this would be countries with a low fatality rate, e.g. Taiwan, HK, NZ, Singapore?

It's difficult to tell from various articles, what "open up" means. There are varying degrees of opening up, with a spectrum of travel reasons and a spectrum of controls. One person's "open up" could mean (critical) business travel now allowed with a testing regime in place, to another person "open up" could mean no testing with tourism accepted (basically return to pre-COVID status quo).

I've traveled already within WA and planning to travel again in earlier July to Kalbarri. Our country is beautiful and it's time to get back to basic and take on a road trip.....
