Welcome to posting. SCs reach your account generally just before you land (I've seen them appear when I turn off flight mode when taxiing at arrival) or within a few hours thereafter - but never before your flight. As mentioned the DSCs take longer, sometimes more than a week after your flight.
You only get the benefits after the necessary SCs and DSCs post and your status is upgraded - to silver (assuming as mentioned above you don't have a lot of other SCs, and also assuming you're the one in business). This mightn't happen until a week or more after you return to Melbourne.
It seems an occasional misconception I've come across that if someone books and/or pays for tickets they get the points and SCs, but also as already mentioned only the person actually flying gets them, and you can't transfer SCs.
