Hey when did Hawaiian air start charging for drinks??? Are they turning into an expensive Jetstar????? Only want a wine with dinner- looks like it's no longer included.......This was on their website...is it a recent change???...was all free last time I flew with them!

Hawaiian Coach provides authentic Hawaiian service and hospitality you can't find anywhere else. Let our friendly staff take care of you before you reach your destination.

  • Complimentary Non-Alcoholic Beverages

You will find that is for domestic U.S. travel

I have never had to pay for a glass of wine on HA in the past, mind you my last flight with them was Feb this year.

Thanks File51....but I just went throught the booking process-just to see how much seats are noe-and up came this little note- stating complimentary non alcoholic drinks- no big deal as I'll only have one-surely being a full service airline- one drink with dinner should be complimentary!!!! After that- charge....

I just had a look on the HA site and for all intents and purposes it would appear maybe they have changed there policy on alcoholic beverages as it very clearly states "Free Non-Alcoholic Beverages" between SYD-HNL.

I always knew on sectors such as HNL-SEA, HNL-LAX & HNL-SFO all of which I have done in the past 18 months the drinks were free aside from alcoholic drinks, maybe they have made things uniform across all sectors.

Bugger...

I'll get over it.

Won't be happy if they start charging for blanket, pillow, food etc.....no doubt...not too far away!

Thanks

I'm sorry... I mean no offence but I can't stand it...

grrrrrrr... spelling police

Would not want to upset you trooper ;)

Fixed

(maybe I should speak in binary or a bit of sql here and there... now that would confuse some people)

The website isn't very clear on this IMO,the front page says-
The moment you step onboard, you enter our home. After all, only one airline is Hawaiian. Genuine island hospitality, complimentary meals, beverages and entertainment are just a part of our award winning service.
but the FAQ sections says
All Hawaiian Airlines flights are cashless. Inflight purchases, such as headsets or drinks, can be made using your debit or credit card.
so that would seem to indicate that alcoholic beverages must be paid for.

I guess it's a matter of competition (there really isn't any to speak of to HNL).

United tried this in economy for a short while, LAX/SFO - SYD, and found the competition wasn't matching, so they switched back to free drinks.

However, the quality of the "wine" (Californian of course) leaves a huge amount to be desired. My seatmate and I tried a red with our dinner flying SFO-SYD a couple of weeks ago and found it to be undrinkable (and we do have a lot of experience with red wines).

That's a shame really (if not very surprising, given it's UA we're talking about) - there are some stunningly good Californian wines out there. Highly recommend a trip to Napa valley if you find yourself in SFO with a day or so to spare.

Well I forgot to reply....but we did manage free wine- just not spirits...fine by me.

Customer service ......abosultely excellent...... as always on Hawaiian !

I'll be back !
