What's your Uber experience?

If he doesn't want to take a long fare, he has the option of setting a "filter" to only pick up jobs on his way home. It ain't rocket science !!

LOL. But few uber drivers have astrophysics degrees.:)

I finally had a reason to request a refund this evening. The driver started the trip meter later and took me in the wrong direction and got lost. He asked me to show him the way. I exited the uber and booked another. The refund process is useless so I got creative. I was notified by email that the refund will happen in three days.

No? I've phoned the number provided when the uber app has stuffed up the location and spoken to the driver.

Its not the drivers number. The call or text is routed via another Uber number then connected to the driver. Same as if the driver contacts you, they don't know your number.

How interesting. Never knew that inspite of many conversations with drivers. Thanks.

Had an excellent Uber experience in Seattle this morning - wet, cold day so decided not to try to get back to SeaTac via the monorail and light rail (the way I arrived). Requested UberX at about 6:50am, only a 5 minute wait and a smooth, safe 20 minute trip to the airport. Car (Toyota Prius) was spotless with a lovely vanilla smell inside, driver was a very friendly young guy from East Africa. Cost just over USD$24.

OK so the driver was definitely at fault. Pretending not to speak English and not setting his filter. I guess he won't remain an Uber driver for long then.

I've found that the Uber map often shows a long way. For example the Cairns ride I took, showed me waiting on the esplanade at DT but my "dot" on Google clearly showed me at the porte-cochere. Then, the Uber app was telling the driver to take me to the airport via the highway instead of Lake St. The Hwy has about 300 traffic lights which invariably are red, Lake St has 2 and is a much faster trip. I mentioned this to the driver and he said he intended to go Lake St anyway, so driver knowledge (and attitude) will play a considerable part in Uber for some time I'm guessing. Pax need to be vocal if they see an error.

Tell me, how were you "creative"?

The other advantage of this for drivers is they don't have to worry about calling an overseas number when you are roaming.

Drivers do not receive pax destination until pick-up

The driver who picked me up in Seattle this morning already knew my destination when he arrived - he confirmed my first name and said "and you're going to Seatac?"

Ok weird one yesterday. Took ms borisspatsky (9) to a show in Sydney. Booked uber. Driver shows up and refuses to take my daughter as she is 'under 12'. Nothing in uber t's and c's about that. I argued, he argued, he cancelled the ride and drove off.

Gent was nice enough but english was poor. Have i missed something about uber here? Previous uber the same evening was fine!

Probably got some email about not taking kids under 12 alone (many that age have smartphones) and English let him down

Nope. He's invented that one. Please send an email to uber.

There are issues with taking children who need to be in child seats, but that's it

I'd say he started the trip before you got in

He may well have done, although it didn't seem to make any difference to the price - the amount charged was the same as the fare estimate.

Used Uber in ADL, MEL and SYD - now it's PER's turn on Sunday to show me how Uber goes over there. Is there a designated pick up zone at the Airport? I only go annually, so can't remember (VA Terminal, I remembver being dropped there but last time I flew over QF).

Assuming the QF terminal, yes there is a designated Uber/shared ride pick-up zone. It is in the middle pick-up lane (one further than the taxis, where the shuttle buses pick one up from), closer to T4 than T3 (not that they are exactly far apart).

Finally started using Uber around October 2016... haven't used a taxi since. ;) Every trip has been 5 star experience. Can't believe I didn't get on board years ago like my wife!!

Just to compare with taxis, I thought I'd provide an insight into a taxi ride I took (no choice) to pick-up my car from a repairer.

It was raining, the young guy had the windows open (?!?) and he didn't know where he was going so asked me for directions. OMFG!!! That said he did say I was his first fare (ever) but even so I kinda assume they go through some kind of training before being let loose on the unsuspecting public... Thankyou Canberra Elite Taxis.

Go Uber!!!

We were told in the Canberra taxi school to say that it was our first day if we had a difficult fare.

Some of the car repairers are in odd places, and asking the passenger for a preferred route is not out of the question. But even then he should have had a fallback of a GPS. If we pick up someone at the airport and they've never been to Canberra before, obviously they don't know the way.

Exactly right. Once the ride is over, the number is useless. The only way for driver or passenger to contact each other is through the "lost property" option.

I once picked up a very drunk chap. His host used his Uber account to pay for the ride, and the drunk bloke was very pleasant company. I got him home safely and wanted to tell the chap who had paid that I had done so. So I used the "I found an item in my car" option to send him a message to that effect.

These messages are visible to - and checked by - Uber. I got a nicegram from Uber later on saying I had done the right thing.
