Top #5
- Trekking the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu, Peru
- Running with Bulls (not so much the running but the partying perhaps) during San Fermins, Pamplona, Spain
- Havana Vieja, Cuba

So many places, would love to head over to the Holi festival through India and do a trip from Beijing to Nepal overland.

Top 5 places I have visited:
Bhutan - amazing people and sights
Alaska - glaciers and icebergs are so blue!
Paris - food, art and culture
New York - because I am a big city type of girl
Ireland - love the people

Top 2 dreams
Botswana
Angkor Wat

Top 5
Tipperary, Ireland (3 months on a project - there were enough of us that it was cheaper to rent a castle - Good times!!)
Oban, Scotland (the clan seat, and home of the Oban distillery - need I say more?)
Maui (Fantastic place, and the bike ride down from the old volcano is spectacular)
Key West (took 2 days out from a VERY rushed DONE4 to veg there - loved it)
Christchurch (great place, but mostly because I'm there before and after a week at Mt Hutt)

Dream 2
Helsinki
Rome

A couple of the least favourite places:
Johannesburg (I spent 3 days there on my way to work in Harare a few years ago - felt much safer in Harare than Jo'burg)
Wilmington, Delaware (when they want to give the north-east USA an enema, Wilmington is where they stick the tube in)

But if you live in Philly Wilmington is a must visit-tax free grog:lol:

Classic line! Must remember to put that place on my "not to do" list.

My top 5: (nowhere near as adventurous as some of the previous)
Salzburg Austria - in the winter and all the surrounding ski areas from the ski shuttle.
The Grand Canyon - Thank God for digital camera's. Been there twice, once when there was snow
Rome - after a rain shower to wash away the dust, bird poop and grime
Bergen, Norway - are there any ugly women in Scandinavia ?
Cape Kennedy (Canaveral) - awesome place for boys and their BIG toys!

Wish list - way too many here to list
Boeing Factory in Everett, and whilst there slip up to Whistler Canada for a day or ten skiing!
Military sites - Kokoda, Gallipoli, Long Tan, Mont St Quentin-Peronne, Fromelles, Normandy and Bastogne. Should knock off the last 4 places on the next trip.

My top 5

Paris - staying in an apartment, the food, the people, walking the streets
Canadian Rockies - beautiful lakes, that pine mountain smell, Gold Leaf service on the Rocky Mountaineer!
Provence - those perched villages, the wines, the locals
USA National Parks - Yosemite, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon
Italy - Venice, Florence, Isle of Capri

Dream 2 - sooo many

Cinque Terre
Ireland

I want to hear about this! that place is in the middle of nowhere!
Mr k_sheep has some ancestors who were born aboard a ship from south africa (they were well off track!), off the coast of Keurgulen. So he thought he should do a pilgrimage back there. Of course, he had no idea where it was or how to get there. So one empty day I sat there and figured out what was there and how to get there, and presented the results to him. The BNE-PER - mauritius - reunion flights aren't too bad. The 6 week research ship sounds worse. The helicopter from the ship to the island which occurs once every couple of weeks due to the awful weather sounds horrible. The >$40k cost is insane. But hey, he wants to go there! The place where the insects don't have wings because of the winds. Paradise

Top 5:
LA - nice blend of shopping and glam
Soho, NYC - high end boho, some interesting sunnies boutiques
Prada flagship, Milan - heaven on earth
Paris - an ode to fashion (though would be much better without the French :p)
Hong Kong - simply electric, the place to get dreadfully hungover repeatedly, and home to my fave W in the world

Dream 2:
Copenhagen - looks really trendy
Any W Hotel I've yet to set foot in (they're expanding too quickly!!)

Hrm, let's see. Too many favourites, but:
  • New York City - so many different things to do, love the theatres and restaurants. Had heaps of fun just walking around the city and taking in the sights. Doesn't feel like it's part of the US.. ;)
  • La Habana - amazing people, stunning architecture, crazy cheap Mojitos. A challenge to the senses if you're used to 1st world standards (but not in a bad or dangerous way). Can't wait to go back!
  • Hong Kong - an outstanding city .. easy to get around, real culture of going out and having a good time. I suspect anything that your heart desires is available for sale, at a special price just for you.. ;)
  • Edinburgh - amazing history and wonderful people. Couldn't bring myself to try the haggis. Really want to come back here for Hogmanay!
  • Amsterdam - another city that's easy to navigate, and the Dutch are an amazing bunch. No need to worry about language; prettymuch everyone speaks English.
As for 2 places I want to go..:
  • Buenos Aires - no specific reason beyond having seen photos and wanting to see it for myself
  • Barcelona - reputedly an amazing city, and the Spanish know how to have a good time :)

A Baker's 5

Paris - need i say more
Budapest - amazing to see something that was "locked" away behind the iron curtain as i was growing up, plus the whole history of course (& my wishy washy romantic side)
Berlin, Check point charlie - I actually went through check point charlie when it was still in use in 1978. I was all of 7 so my memory is a bit hazy, remember the mirrors being wheeled under the car. Apparently, my brother and I had to use the amenities urgently (probably just part of our world tour of toilets) creating a bit of an argument with the guards until one of them offered to escort us. Turn out he needed to go as well.
Vatican sistine chapel - just amazing
Schloss Neuschwanstein - refer to my comment about a wishy washy romantic side.
My sister in laws village in spain

2 to visit:
The east Moscow, Chernobyl somewhere to be determined
Granada

Amen to Berlin, was debating between that or HK for one of my 5s. Great party town, and German food is yummy (as are the Germans ;))! The shopping isn't as amazing but getting there. In the end it came down to HK being close enough to MEL for a drunken weekend. Having a W helps of course.

Here's my top 5 of places I've been:

1. Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, seemingly hardly touched since 16th Century. And Bacardi is basically free
2. Macau, historic centre - visit before its all knocked down and turned into casinos
3. Rarotonga, Cook Islands - but avoid in the NZ school hols
4. Cambridge, England - if you can pick one of the 10 sunny days a year
5. Zagreb, Croatia - another historic gem from the old communist world

and the 5 I'd like to go:

1. That hotel built on stilts in the lagoon in Tahiti. Preferably for a month on expenses
2. Las Vegas - just so I can say I've been
3. The island with the Komodo dragons (Flores?)
4. The Barrier Reef. I have lived in Australia 15 years and never been
5. Pompeii

Top 5 visited:

Alaska (from a cruise ship) - white mountains rising 20000 feet straight from the sea
Norway's fjords and mountainous central regions - such contrasts
New Zealand South Island - a postcard around every corner - including Mt Cook from Lake Pukaki
Pulau Tioman, way before resorts existed there - swimming and clearly seeing the bottom of the ocean at 80 feet deep
Innsbruck, Austria - for the mountains surrounding it

2 'dreams'

Antarctica - definitely achievable, if a little expensive
Everest Base Camp - becoming less achievable as time goes by
