There isn't anything these days like the old Lockheed Electra.

Fat fingers and poor proof reading tonight :!:
We all got that. At least your fat fingers got something still understandable and slightly funny. I usually get random words that make no sense at all.

I may have been very young, but I still remember flying in the Electra, and going to the lounge area in the back to read and have a drink..
I also remember having a drink with mum and dad in the Captain Cook bar, upstairs in the early 747's.

Those were the days!

For me....

Flown in...

747- most J products or

767 - majestic old bucket of nuts and bolts and flys like a treat

Flown...

Piper Seminole (twin) - the only twin I have flown (handbrake applied to flying myself when I married Mrs!) - much better than the cubs or cessnas the club had!

Want to fly - drool over - MIG29 super fulcrum - luftwafer kit

Mr!

:)

I've only flown first class twice and it was on the Emirates A380 - my vote for best aircraft.

Best military aircraft? SR-71 Blackbird without a doubt.

I've always had a soft spot for the Boeing 767.

It was the first plane I ever flew on (Ansett) as an enthralled 11 year old. Discovered the boarding pass in a trip diary a couple of years ago and found out that I flew J - what a waste! :)

A Boeing 767 was also the plane I took my first Y flight on with QF back in 2001 just after Ansett was placed into administration.

A couple of years later, my first J flight with QF was on that same plane (think it was VH-OGA). I was seated in seat 2A and thought the 1-2-2 config was absolute heaven.

I miss the 767 now that I live in CBR. One does get tired of DH8s and 734s (with the occasional 738) over time :)

I'll take a 734 over a 738 (QF fleet) anytime - much nicer ride in the first few seats behind J

Mr!

:)

Everything is nice in J, even 732 and 319s. It really depends on the airline configuration. SQ J, even old regional style is great on anything, as is NW, while old TG 777s leave a bit to be desired as do their 340-500. And upper deck 747 J is great on everything, even Pakistan international!

I think it is Y where you really get to judge the plane. I do love flying on 380, but the new SQ seats are like surfboards, same as their latest 777 ERs. I do not know how anyone can possibly get nostalgic over 767 with the rattles and tiny overhead bins, or anything single aisle. My favourite Y is the previous series SQ 777 with decent seats, AVOD and multi cabin Y. I have to admit that the QF 330s in international config are not bad either, but legroom is not the best. I will fly SQ 330 later this week and see if it overtakes the mantle of "series II SQ777". I do so much mileage in those they feel like home.

There is one 767 from CBR, QF811 down to melbourne (I believe it leaves at 9:15am). However it doesn't run as a 767 flight every day, so if you want to fly on it you need to pick your days...

Aah, ok. I don't usually leave CBR at that time (if I'm flying out especially at this time of year, it'll usually be early morning to avoid the fog or later in the afternoon).

Maybe I'll find a reason to get on it some time :)

Used to love the BAe 146 intra-state in WA ... Loved the 4 engines (always felt much safer than a 2 engine plane), overhead wings, good for short runway landings ...

...and quiet. Good for getting late into curfewed airports as I recall.

Glad someone liked it. I always wondered why they build an aircraft with 5 APUs. A bit like hanging 4 hair driers under the wings and hoping for the best.

Not sure how many places this applied to in Australia? They are, however, certified for the steeper decent/ascent profile required for operation at places like LCY.

They used to be called "the muffler" because they were quieter outside than inside the cabin.
... and great for fumes also :!:
And that was the other reason for "the muffler" ;).

Only ever flew in a BAe 146 once. My second ever Ansett flight (and sadly my last :(), the first was a few hours earlier.

I have to say it was not my favourite of planes, the no entertainment system kinda ruined the experience for me. Although back then I used to think B737's where cool...

I've never flown on a 146. My favourite is the A330, I've mainly flown them on PER-SYD and appreciated the quieter cabin. Much quieter than a 767, and more spacious than a 737 (with the Virgin Blue only travel policy there isn't much variation anymore).

I also like the smaller planes for something different, eg my one Dash-8 flight on CBR-SYD (soon to be two), or even better the ATR-72 on PPT-BOB (but that was more about the destination than the aircraft).

But up in J it's all different - LAN 767 is my favourite so far (but not from a huge sample space). Definitely looking forward to trying SQ J next week flying PER-SIN-EWR.

Anything to the left of the aircraft door, or any 2-x-2 configuration in economy.

If I cannot fly in a 2-x-2 config, I have even been known to purchase 3 seats in a row on 3-3 configs - I can sit next to Mrs fiscal (who will only fly window seat), but I hate with a vengeance the middle seat, so I dont mind the cost.
