As the title asks, what is your favourite plane and is there a reason why?

For me it's the B747. I guess as a kid it was always the plane associated with going very long distances, it was also the first type of plane I ever flew (back in 91, over to the US).

I even prefer it over the A380 (although it's a close one). Also yes, I'd change my travel plans (a little bit) if it meant taking a B747.

So are there any planes which people prefer to fly on?

As stated in another thread, I love the 767. She is old. She rattles and shakes, but I love to fly her.

I would love it more if QF had added Skybed Mk1 and AVOD to the interior. But we can't have everything.

You can probably guess from my name!

I think it's because there weren't any local 777s for such a long while i came to associate it with exciting internaitonal destinations and not shuffling between MEL,BNE,SYD. I did a Y class 28 leg RTW trip a few years ago and the 777s always felt spacious, new and luxuirous compared to whatever i flew on before or after.

777.

To me a plane is a plane

All that I really care about is what the seating et al is like and that is to a great extent unrelated to the model of the plane and just down to how the airline decides to set it up

The one exception is that I did once do LHR-JFK on Concorde in order to fly on it

Toss up between MD-11 and 747 for me.

Was just thinking about this after doing my fourth A380 flight - there's something majestic about even being inside a 747 that the sterile frills and comforts of a 380 can't replicate.

Always had a thing for the tail mounted engine on the DC-10 MD-11 too. :)

I agree with Dave Noble, it usually depends on the layout, fitout, cabin you're in, and seat. I do though tend to prefer twin aisle planes...just a sense of more room, and not so much feeling of being confined to a metal cylinder (though of course I am).

Any plane where I'm at the controls!
(I hate being a passenger)

just recently flew to LAX return in VAust PE and have to say i did enjoy my 1st trip on a 777.

the mood lighting was a nice touch, the seat was pretty comfy, and the touch screen IFE worked like a charm.

now all i gotta do is get meself a nice set of noise cancelling head phones :)

Not having flown much (Nearly 1,000,000km), my travel has been limited on 767 and 737's. I think the 767 is my favourite.

Haven't tried A380.

And I don't like the Dash 8's ... the Canberra vibrators. Been on too many of them!

A couple of years ago I would probably have said the 747 but after many trips on them in the last two or so years I would now have to say the A330,
in particular CX's herringbone J class,I think that would have to be amongst the best, most comfortable plane I have ever travelled on.
Admittedly I haven't tried the A380 yet but at the moment the A330 takes the prize, for me at least.
As regards military,I would say the old Harrier jump jets closely followed by the F22 Raptor.

It's hard to pick a favourite because I love all planes!

B747 has a special spot though - Queen of the skies.

I'd have to say Concorde, never flown it, but almost went into big debt to get one of the last flights. IT just represents something that is unobtainable these days. Ideological love.....

Otherwise 747 would ahve been my first flight and I can still remember the movies that were shown back in 1978 (as a 7 year old heading to KHR via Singapore and Bahrain) - fond memories, perhaps because of great parents who would take me on such a trip.

Otherwise, of all aircraft, the F111, followed closely by the Phantom (america's prove that even a brick can fly)

Or the Lancaster, but then my wife's grandfather didn't have much success with his lancaster. Miosquito, Mustang....???

You know, as a male, we often hear that size really matters ;) and the same applies with planes too - so my favourite is the A380's!

Its just an amazing piece of machinery IMO.

777-300ER on SQ. Those super wide J seats are even wide enough for you to read bedtime stories to your 2 year old..side by side in the same seat ...very cosy and cuddly and the forward small cabin is so quiet, 2 year olds sleep for ever. What a truely magnificent way to travel

I've had a soft spot for the 747 for a long time, but the 380 is my favourite after just one flight. It's all about the size. Have you ever noticed how the depiction of commercial airline interiors by Hollywood often seems to make them look larger than the real thing? Well for me the 380 is the realisation of that film fantasy. I can still clearly replay the scene in my mind as I walked around the corner at the very front and saw, for the first time, the large internal staircase; the generous headroom and the width of the cabin. She's a beauty.

A340 then A380 or B744, but next would be the A330 and B767.
777's are not really nice to me.... sure in CX i find the whY seats nice (nicer than the SQ ones for some reason) but they are noisy planes and just can't explain why but boring.... they do have nice big engines though :)

For military planes i love the old F-14's or the F-111's/F-4's

But my number one love since i saw then being baked near my home town (in Ballina, NSW) is the Lancair range... Give me a IV-P with winglets anyday ! or just a simple Legacy :)

Sadly its been many years since the autoclave of Avtech? has been used to bake them.... i think they stopped 15 years ago or so.

If size matters, I've got a real problem.

My favourite is the Evektor Sportstar for the same reason as Russ stated above @#7. I can sit in the driver's seat :p.

Difficult to choose.

Should it be the 767 as its 2 aisle, I can see a time when the majority of domestic flights will be on boring single aisle 737s and A320s,

or the 747 because it was so much bigger than anything else at the time with the spiral staircase and the 10 across seating.

or should it be the A380 because its the biggest and quietest plane at the moment, on take off you almost feel like you are gliding, yes I was a passenger on the inaugural A380 SYD-SIN.

None of the above.

Concorde it flew faster and higher than anything and I completely missed flying on it. :(

Any plane where I get to turn left or go up the stairs after entry (with the exception of the ATR and others where the entry door is behind the wing).

For me it's the Airbus widebodies - A380, A340, A330. Compared to similar Boeing planes they're very quiet and they feel more spacious due to the wider cabin design.
