What's the most obscure airport you've visited?

Avon STOLport, Colorado. Beside I70 not far from Vail.
It was semi-private for Rocky Mountain Airlines who operated a DHC-7 there.
You can just see a ghost of the old runway Google Maps
Replaced by Eagle Vail further west.

I didn't think of it as obscure at the time, but it's certainly turned out that way now.

GWY - Galway, Ireland. Flew here from CWL on Aer Arann in 2007.

Aer Arann is now defunct and the airport has since closed to commercial traffic. I don't think it will reopen as the Irish Government is trying to push the domestic market into five regional airports plus Dublin, for Galway this is Shannon Airport - just over an hours drive away (GWY was 10 minutes from the town centre).

Such a shame as it really added to the experience of visiting Galway - a tiny airport with a tin shed for a terminal. Immigration was just at a desk like rental cars and worked on the honour system (a friend and I were travelling on AU passports and stopped to check if we needed to talk to him, and he stamped our passports and handwrote our visas).

I flew into donegal for my brother’s first wedding- such a beautiful approach. I assume that will be the same although uncertain what the replacement would be? (London)Derry?

My first thought was HEH - Heho in Myanmar, but that at least had a small building.

Closer to home, YWMC - William Creek. We took off on the old runway, which meant taxiing across the main road. We landed at the air strip at the Painted Hills on Anna Creek Station, but I'm guessing that doesn't have a code.

No Donegal is one of the funded regional airports (Cork, Donegal, Kerry, Ireland West (Knock), Shannon)

Perhaps the two most obscure ones for me have been Wilton Airport (YWIO) south-west of Sydney (used by skydivers) and Petaluma Municipal Airport (FAA LID: O69) in California.

The most enjoyable of the small ones has been Kittilä (KTT/EFKT) in the Finnish Lapland. A fireplace, rocking chairs and wooden blocks as seats in the gate lounge. That was an enjoyable wait.

I have spent this morning going down rabbit holes on AFF after logging on to search for information about emirates flights from BNE to LHR and ended up on this thread again. I have flown out and in from XRH (Richmond RAAF base) in a glider, and although not on a flight, instructed many advanced driving courses on the runways of the old Schofields RAAF base ICAO code YSFS after it closed permanently following the Bond sky ship flight closure.

Basically a tin shed with just enough room to check in and go through security.
Pax waiting room is in the middle of both and if its a 737 flight you can get herded into the shed next door.

Probably already been mentioned, but Ryanair (FR) deposits you into some fairly obscure airports. Three (that I can remember) I've been to are:
- Kerry (KIR) in Ireland, which is pretty remote from anywhere
- Hahn (HHN) in Germany, which is supposed to be Frankfurt, but is in fact an hour's train ride away
- Charleroi (CRL) in Belgium (aka "Brussels South"), an hour's train ride away.

We won't mention the buses that are required to get to the train stations...

Good old Ryanair. At least they're safe to fly. I'm flying them later this month from BUD to CPH. I know what to expect!

Temora NSW (TEM).
No longer used commercially but used as a departure point for skydiving, gliding, training and so forth. Apparently no fees are charged by the local council.
The airport is also home of the Temora Aviation Museum which is why I went.

I've visited Needles airport in California and was shown by the local janitor where Snoopy's brother lives (it's quite close!).

Kingman airport, which isn't too far away, is quite interesting because of the large number of mothballed airliners that are stored there.

Then there's the nearby Bullhead City (AZ) airport, which brings gamblers (and others) to Laughlin, Nevada.

Ah, the good old days...

Oh, and I forgot to mention Lake Havasu City airport which isn't that far away either.

Of course, I've also toured Edwards and Davis Monthan AFB's.

Ah memories, Bullhead City is where me and her got married under eucalypt trees on the banks of the Colorado river, our room in Laughlin NV overlooked the airport in AZ, seems like a lifetime ago……..……

Kooddoo Airport (GKK) on the way to Park Hyatt Maldives.

Flew a Maldivian DHC-8 300 there, and remember some slight uneasiness when I heard "sink rate, sink rate" coming from the coughpit computer during the descent.

I'm not sure if anyone has already mentioned it, but Cudal (near Orange) was a nice little aerodrome (it used to be a Hazelton (ZL) base), but it has now become an automated testing facility for vehicle safety technology.
