Just wondering what your most memorable bonus points offer has been.

Mine was a bonus of 100,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points if you flew on 5 One World airlines within a certain time frame. This was 10 years ago in December 1999 and I was planning a brief soujourn to Asia for holidays so flew the following airlines.

SYD/SIN BA - British Airways
SIN/BKK AY - Finnair
BKK/HKG CP - Canadian Airlines Intl
HKG/SIN CX - Cathay Pacific
SIN/DRW QF - Qantas

In the olden days all you needed for a Qantas Business Class around Australian redemption ticket was 30,000 points and from memory the limit for the journey was 45,000 kms but you could get at least 8 sectors such as:

MEL/ADL/PER/BME/AYQ/DRW/BNE/SYD

Can't remember to the letter, but considering you would be able to do 3 such trips for 90,000 points (out of your bonus 100,000) and each trip would be worths thousands of dollars, the initial outlay of about 2K for my Asian airfare was a pretty good return on investment.

I think the domestic taxes back then on the ticket were negligible (if any) so the award ticket was pretty much for nix.

There were redemption bookings all over the place and sometimes gaps of a month or so in between sectors so I had diary entries all over the place so I didn't miss any flights.

Was doing a lot of interstate travelling with work so was able to combine a work trip then fly out of where I was on a redemption and fly back to SYD from there.

It was 30K in WHY, 37½K in Business, wholly within Australia and up to 11,0000 Km.

One my wife and I did was MEL-PER-BME-ASP-AYQ-CNS-BNE-MEL. Another I did was MEL-PER-ASP-DRW-ASP-CNS-BNE-MEL.

It was hard to get all three of BME/DRW/CNS in the on ex MEL trip and stay under 11000Km.

I booked 6 of them. The first four were all in (no
ppplus.bmp
). Last two had at total of $3.40 in
ppplus.bmp
(pre GST Noise levy that by then had to be paid).

We did as a family of four:

MEL-ASP-AYQ-ASP-DRW-Kunnurra-Broome-Karratha-Port Headland-PER-ADL-MEL

Huge thunderstorm heading into Kunnurra that hit stright after we landed. Took off about an hour later in the opposite direction to that we landed - was with wind behind us (yes, really) - barely made it off the ground by the end of the runway.

The best bonus point deal I have had direct from Qantas was the QF Holidays 10,000 bonus points offer. I booked two trips, one to BNE and one to MEL, for ~$350 each including flights and 1 nights accommodation and received ~12,350 QFF points for each trip.

not so much a junket (yet) but i was lucky enough to get 30K worth of velocity points from NAB, and to this day have gone to cancel the card each year only to be asked if I would like to keep it if they waived the annual fee.

I always say yes as it's the card combo I hide away when on holidays as my emergency cards :)

now if i could only get a few more amex QF premium card 17.5K freebies I'd be set for the south american adventure
