Whats Better BA or QF Metal?

I prefer QF over BA for J, but the difference is slight and I would be happy with either. I like the width of the QF seat and find that is more of an advantage to me than the horozontal nature of the BA seat. I also find the QF seat more comfortable as a seat than the BA seat.

You can actually tell whether you're on a 744ER or standard 744 [while inside]. All you do need is look up.. -400E/Rs have the 777 style overhead bins while the 744 have the standard ones.

I must spend to much time in the J cabins. They have been getting the new overhead lockers at the same time as the skybeds. For example, here is 747-438 VH-OJN before and after the fit-out. The after picture is exactly the same as would be seen on a 747-400ER.

Don't worry, Club World seats are wider than WT+ seats. On BA
Economy seats are 17.5" wide, WT+ are 18.5" wide ,CW seats are 20" wide and 1st are 21" wide

According to SeatGuru, the Skybeds are 21.5 inches wide. Note that the BA NCW seats are 20 inches at the shoulders, but the feet position when fully flat is less than 20 inches. That was they can fit 8 across the 744 lower deck while QF can only fit 7 across. The alternate forward/reverse seating of the BA seats is a very clever use of the space and only possible since the feet end is narrower than the head end of the seat when extended.

Recently flown back to back on BA and QF J (SIN-LHR-AUH-MCT). I would probably choose the BA bed given the choice as, like Dave mentioned it goes horizontal.

I did not find that the BA bed was too skinny, but what I didn't like was the fact that if you have to wriggle up the bed to make it long enough. Once done I found it an alright length, however the seat belt is then somewhere halfway between your waist and your knees. Another thing which is a little annoying is the seat will not return to upright if you have wriggled up (or maybe I was just to heavy), so you have to wriggle back down the seat, and then start returning to normal. Both of these of course are no real dramas.

Its a solid pannel that forms a bulkhead. It goes down to the floor, so there is no storage under the seat in front of you.

Not sure on the width of domestic J precisely , but I do not think that the BA bed is narrower than that. Try BA, get a window seat and you have privacy akin to 1st class imo. I think you'll be happy with it. I definately think that it is much easier to sleep on the fully horizontal bed than the skybed

I have been in QF J many times, but have only been in BA J on 3 occasions. 2 of them dont really count as it was LHR-CDG, and I was on the 3 seat side (no differnece in seat width to economy and squeezed in like sardines. However on the LHR-JFK sector, the seating was better and the service lots better than QF. It took a little while to get used to being seated backwards but the privacy aspect was lots better. BA also had southern comfort available, I have never got that on a QF flight.

Only the LHR-JFK would have been in Club World , a completely different beastie to Club Europe ( which doesn't count in this comparison ) . The seats in CE are not the same as EuroTraveller (economy), the seats are wider than ET due to the conversion from 3-3 to 2-3. The legroom is the same as economy at 34". When travelling economy on BA I much prefer going ET rather than WT due to the more comfortable 34" pitch

The seats themselves are the same width on the left and right side of the aisle. The difference is in the arm-rest between the seats. On the left (2 seat) side there is a very wide double arm rest (about 8 inches) while on the right (3 seat) side the arm rest is a narrow single arm rest.

The seats actually convert from standard 3x3 config for Euro Traveller seating to the 2x3 Club Europe config. To make this change, the left block is slid inwards to make two seats compressing the centre seat into the middle arm rest. The right side is slid towards the aisle, stretching the seating wider than the standard Euro Traveller seating. This effectively shifts the aisle to the left, which is why the first row on the left side of Euro Traveller seating directly behind the movable cabin divider is always pushed to the compressed 2-seat position meaning there is no C seat in that particular row.
