What's behind your AFF user name?

great thread with lots of participation - mine comes from being a "pointy-end" flyer and my collection of crocodiles (wooden and stone carvings) but luxury-croc didn't sound as neat as luxury-lizard which I use on various forums.
The avatar is so cute! Lovable Luxury Lizard...

I travel for target shooting competitions..one of which uses guns of the old west era (and costuming lol) and requires each shooter have an alias. I looked around for something Australian but still "period" and decided on "trooper". Inspired by Samuel Nelson, the NSW Colonial policeman who was killed by the Bushrangers Dunn, Hall and Gilbert outside the pub at Collector NSW..which is nearby. (If there was any justice the pub would have been renamed the Samuel Nelson, not "the Bushranger" ;)) My avatar shows me all rigged up for a jump on my "Military freefall" training course. Virtually ALL my aircraft experience up until 1997 was falling out of the damn things!

I also use my initials, but spoken as a pirate would celebrate life.
Having spent many years living in Bristol and the West Country, I now have a STRONG urge to yell "Cheers, Drive!" towards the coughpit door when I disembark my next flight, having read this about pirates....

Pilot ... Pirate ... sound similar, at least when Gilbert & Sullivan are involved around Penzance :p

Well hornswoggle the mains’l and yee-aargh the first mate me hearties!

I’ve only ever said seven-four-seven, so took my brain another second to translate that seven forty seven was B747. ☺️
Ever since I heard “and it’s seven forty-seven, the Boeing time-call” on morning radio I’ve associated 7:07, 7:17, 7:27, 7:37, 7:47 and 7:57 with Boeings. :)

As for my username … needed a name like Thrug, Grug or similar for a D&D character at school. It kinda stuck, and 40-odd years later is still attached. The avatar is one of those selfies you have to take to open a bank account these days.

First visit to Penzance in 1975 when I discovered people really did talk like pirates :)
Although a rather amusing bit of disinformation, historically speaking.

The captains (and, ergo, owners) of a good many privateering vessels, were generally pretty well heeled. They would have spoken pretty cleanly (although we must concede received pronunciation came a bit later than the golden age of Piracy)

I just like ribbing my old pals down in Brizzle whenever I can.

Those were the days.

Not sure if the number/drinking game "fizzbuzz" has any Australian resonance

Anyway, my student rugby team's "Cornish fizzbuzz" had "oo-aargh" for numbers 1-4, 6, 8,9, "oinker" for multiples of five, "properjob" for multiples of 7 and "lots" for other numbers greater than 10.

At maximum volume in the pubs of St Ives, Helston and Penzance.

Used to live on a farm & milking our cows on near daily basis waking at 4am became known as MooTime.
Supposedly fun n playful speak for children to be up before dawn

As we got older we had other names for rising at 4am.....not appropriate of course.

Glady live in suburbia now with a leisurely 6am rise.
