What will happen to the complimentary Virgin flights redeemed thru ANZ Travel Rewards and Amex?

I hadn’t booked a flight.

It wasn’t likely to be of any use to me anyway so I used that as an excuse to be entitled to an annual fee refund.

The refund was duly processed in to my newly opened FF black card account and the traveller card is now closed.

I did also ask for lounge passes but doubt I will ever see them.

75000 V points, zero fee!...
Dang. I should have tried that. I booked my flights and transferred all the remaining points to Krisflyer just before cancelling the card a few weeks ago. Only a few months ago I was thinking of keeping it because of the lack of FX fees, but a CC without FX fees isn't much use to me if I'm not travelling OS any time soon.

I asked the travel consultant what will happen if interstate travel hasn't opened up by the end of the year when I'm due to fly. He said that VA would give me travel credit. At the time I believed the chances of me flying is slim to none due to state lockdowns, but I figured a booked flight was better than no flight at all. I'm totally prepared for the chance that I might lose the flight and the travel credit.

As a travel addict, just having the booking seems to have done wonders for my mental health, so it's not entirely worthless.

Had anyone booked their complimentary Virgin domestic flights to originally flying this month, but got canceled by the airline? what did ANZ do about it? Are we still dealing with ANZ or now with Virgin directly re the travel bank or refund?

I have upcoming trip in July using the comp tickets that was booked last year. Just wondering what will happen to the ticket?
Thanks!

P.s. also would be interested to know what happens with the Amex Velocity comp flights
No flights anymore, only $400 from Amex to contribute to flights or hotel bookings.

As I hadn't heard anything I sent an email to ANZ 3 days before my flight. The day after I got the following response:
Agent comments: *****THIS TICKET HAS BEEN HELD IN CREDIT***** Due to Virgin’s country-wide cancellation, this ticket has been held in credit. We’re sorry your travel plans have been disrupted. To use the credit simply phone us with this booking number. No reissue fees apply but any applicable fare/tax difference will need to be paid. The ticket must be reissued within 12 months of the original date of issue or by 31st Dec 20, whichever is later.
Not entirely sure if that's a credit with ANZ travel or Virgin.

My annual fee has just hit and I have a flight booked for October with VA. Is there an option, like with other cards, of cancelling and having the annual fee refunded within 30 days? I am happy to forfeit my flight as it most likely won't happen anyway.

Don't quote me on this but I am sure they will refund your annual fee if you cancel right after the annual fee is charged.

You will also keep your flight that's booked with VA, cancelling the card would not invalidate the ticket. (Whether VA will continue to operate in October is a different question though)

Since when?

Administration is not Liquidation.

To clarify my poorly worded comment, there is no requirement for an Administrator to honour gift cards or flight credits, but they do in certain circumstances, for example where they want to preserve the goodwill.

I've booked 2 complimentary virgin flights through Amex for Sept 4th - Sydney to Cairn return.
This booking was made end of last year. I was hopefully we could go but now QLD has shut boarders again.

What happens with these flights, do i get flight voucher, credits or will i need to change dates now because i don't know which date to change them to. End of October will still be too soon huh?

VA cancelled the flight I was due to be flying in October this week. I got an email from ANZ travel saying that I needed to contact them immediately or my flights would be forfeited. When I called they said there was an option to fly via Melbourne, which I thought was a joke at first. Apparently not.
They eventually offered me two options: to rebook on different dates or to change destination. No option for credit. To change destination I’d have to pay a fee apparently, so that was a no. They will rebook to a date 6 months from the original flight free of charge if the destination is the same, so I did that. April 2021 it is. Who knows if the Tassie borders will be open by then. I’m adjusting expectations on a daily basis.

Interesting.

My MEL-PER-MEL no longer is feasible, booked for September. I guess I'll give them a ring at some point...if I can get a change of dates for free, that will do (and just suck it up if not...no point crying over spilled milk)

I did that just last week for a SYD-PER-SYD booked for September as well. Change of date was totally no problem with no cost, you just need to make sure there's availability in T on the flights you're switching too (which is easy at the moment). If you want to change destination though there's a fee for that.

Oh ok, that's great to hear. I will give them a call this afternoon if I get a chance. Hopefully no longer being a cardholder will not present any issues.

I did just check my booking for a laugh. It's gone from MEL-PER-MEL to ADL-SYD-PER-MEL somehow 😂, I'm guessing it went MEL-ADL-PER at some point and it all got in a jumble from there...

Anyone know how much it is to change destination? OR anyone gotten away with the fee?
I'm looking to change Sydney - Cairns booked 4th Sept to Sydney - Hobart Feb 21.

I just called Virgin Amex complimentary flights. This is what they've told me.
I booked my tickets 11/11/2019 for travel SYD-CNS 04/09/2020. I am trying to push this out to early next year but the rep i spoke to said i have to fly before 11/11/2020 because of the 12month validity rule. Is this right?
I don't think boarders will be open by then and would like to play it safer to push it to next year. Should i call back? What are other people doing?
I asked if i can get a flight voucher for this and she said she can put a request through but it's up to the new owners of virgin to see what they want to do.

Will insurance cover me for this complimentary flight if i bought an annual cover worldwide cover?

From the insurance PDF - yes it was purchased pre-pandemic.:
"If you have paid the appropriate Annual Multi
Trip travel insurance premium, trips wholly within
Australia are insured if they include at least one
overnight stay and a minimum distance of 250kms
away from your place of residence."
