Best flight ever for us two oldies, QF SYD to DFW return in J, up in the 747 bubble (used to be F), huge seats, lots of storage, our own catering crew and loo, think it was about 16 hours of pure pleasure.

Very difficult to note a single flight, since many are notable for different and incomparable reasons. These stand out above many others.

  • Operational Upgrade to F with CX traveling LAX-HKG. Amazing service and excellent food/beverages. Flight operated by 747-400. Part of DONE4 fare.
  • Points upgrade to F on QF MEL-LHR (via SIN) on 747-400, where that single flight credited to AAdvantage Platinum Challenge took me from no status to Platinum and the start of my AAdvantage journey. Part of DONE4 fare.
  • QF J on 747-400 BNE-AKL-LAX, where a very friendly QF captain :))) invited me to the flight deck for landing into LAX (so that tells us how long ago that was) after we had a long conversation in his "office" during the flight. Part of DONE4 fare.

I've not flown often enough that I'd have a story worth telling compared to most peeps 'round here ... but when EK were doing some sort of maintenance/servicing in New Zealand and were offering super cheap F flights we jumped in & grabbed a couple (we paid ~$600 apiece return - full-fare Y is more than that now isn't it?). So, up the front of an A380, a short enough flight so as not to get bored (in fact I'd say almost too short to enjoy F), a very quiet cabin, and we got to leave the aircraft first (which was good 'cos they were disembarking everyone from the A380 via a single set of stairs & onto buses).

That was my best "commute" flight, but the best flight overall was probably the scenic flight from Queenstown to Milford Sound early one October so there was still plenty of snow on the hills. Nice calm clear day, impressive views, everyone's got a window seat (I'm trying to remember whether maybe everyone has two window seats it was pretty small), and flying back into Queenstown over stunning blue Lake Wakatipu with the snow-capped mountains on either size and the plume lazily drifting up from the steam ferry was truly magnificent!

Actually yes it was too short to enjoy F, I really couldn't justify having a mid-air shower but soooo wanted to :)

F Adelaide to London via Dubai and having a shower at 35000 feet

Well.... let's see, there are two

QF63 (744) in F, with three old blokes as the cabin crew, was a standout. Memorably, they dealt with their 'high value' clientele, mixing their travel and life stories with the sort of service delivery you would expect from a top-line Australian operation - combining our country's best qualities of familiarity, respectfulness, delivering efficiently without airs or 'fussiness'. Collectively (and being kind), I would say there were at least 110 years of unforgettably insightful operational experience in that cabin that would only make Lonely Planet editors blush.....

The other was strangely an AA flight out of AUA/TNCA TO MIA/KMIA, again for the satisfyingly unselfish manner in how you were made to feel good....just great, I have never forgotten it, and that must have been 14 years ago?

Bne-Nadi-Kirabati-Honolulu(Fiji Max8),
Honolulu-Majuro Atoll, Kwajalein, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Guam(United 737-800)

Most luxurious, likely our 772 or 773 QR flight PER-DOH or DOH-IAH. First time(s) in long haul J, was exceptional.

Those were probably objectively the best flights, but I have soft spots for certain others that are memorable. My first ever "F" experience with a free upgrade on AS; a flight in F on AA that was rerouted and then diverted due to weather making an ORD-LGA leg end up as ORD-MCO-BDL-JFK, and even my first J experience on a QF 737 watching the IT crowd one-off special episode.
