What was your 100th country?

Seeing @Scarlett ’s recent post, I thought I’d ask: Those who have visited 100 foreign countries#, what was your number 100?

Mine was Barbados.

Well you’ve seen mine on the trip report @RooFlyer, but for others:


Uruguay.
Had barely spent any time in South America at all before this trip so probably not surprising this is where I ended up for 100.

If I ever have the great fortune to get to number 200 it’ll probably be somewhere like Chad or Burkina Faso. Lots of water to flow under the bridge before that is even remotely possible though.

Palau in 2 weeks' time will be 95.
I was hoping to do the 5 Stans next year but sadly that won't happen now...

I have been told to do a Carribbean cruise or a Pacfic Island cruise to get there asap

Sri Lanka, Malta and San Marino are planned for next year..

There is a conference in New Delhi in Feb 2027 so work should pay...

Not sure as how people count countries differ, especially when it comes to countries that have disappeared, or broken up. Can I count Yugoslavia as a country as well as the ones that exist now?

Wow - I just made a list and my 60ieth was Mauritius and I think that's it for me for this life time - actually planning to add Ireland next year. Will still re-visit all my favourite places.

Never really taken much notice as I sometime get confused with what is a county, territory or colony. @SYD thanks for the link I did take a quick look. In the past I have wondered if some places classified as China are considered to be seperate due to their special conditions as admin regions e.g. Hong Kong, Macau, Tibet, Inner Mongolia etc. That leads onto another thought, when the BAOR was a thing I could fly between RAF Bases in Germany to and from the UK without passport control, if flying from a German airport a passport was required but they were all located in what is now Germany. Even then Germany was separated into East and West. Also from memory the British also claimed claimed parts of the ME, another was Diego Garcia. When I went through there and from memory the British and the US both claimed ownership, the gentlemen's agreement was it was owned by the British but run by the US but I may be wrong as it was a long time ago. I may take a look at the list as I think Canada has some unusual things and closer to home many of the Island Nations have changed ownership overtime, colonies/ independence.

Waffle over, I have no idea how many I have been to depending on the definition

And there I was about to brag about hitting 50 countries recently... it was Portugal if a couple of territories count. If not then it was Slovakia I think.
As mentioned above what do you do about former countries? I visited Yugoslavia and East Germany back in the day. I don't count them and now I can count North Macedonia and Serbia from my original visit and Slovenia and Croatia from last year.
I visited a lot of countries in Europe and Africa in my early 20s but then for quite a long time most of my travel was US and Canada (family and work). Realistically I'd have to make it a priority to get to 100 if I've got any chance of making it. But then there's so many places to revisit. I might get to 75 while I'm above ground. I'll work on that.

Side note, isn't Uruguay a great country? Really underrated I felt. Not much going on, but at the same time, I really enjoyed it.

Brazil was 100 for me, back in January '25.

Sitting on 110 now, but as with most things, don't really care too much what is or could be next. Hey ho.

Only 76 as per (mainly) current definitions.

Travel for me got seriously derailed by covid and house moves and now slowed down with age and more choosy on where I go/ what is suitable for age health and mobility. Prior to that was on quite a roll.

Not too bad seeing overseas travel for me really didn’t start until 1999. Also all leisure travel. Business travel was all domestic.

2027 will see 4 repeat countries (possibly 5).

If things go well planning to hit 80 in 2028. Not looking a lot further into the future than that at this stage.

To get to 100 by your 30th birthday is unbelievable...he has plenty of time to visit every country in the world ...is that 195?!

3 out of the 4 I will most likely never get to as they are on a list that I need to get permission to travel to and if approved I still need to sign waivers to the effect that travel is at my own risk. I will not get into the detail but it is not hard to work out.
